I’m so excited that we’re mid Summer and the days are warmer.

The weather is pretty good right now ( well for the UK, lol ) and the hours of daylight are a lot longer, plus we’re all wearing less clothes and not having to layer up, although being in London, I’ve always got my umbrella at hand just in case of a downpour. HAHA!

Wearing long hair down in the Summer can be a tad hot and annoying, and alongside ponytails or chignons ( knots) , braiding ( or plaiting as its more traditionally known ) is another alternative way to wear your hair throughout the summer months not only as a way to dress your hair, but also to get it out of the way.

There’s nothing cuter than a plait/braid with a pair of shorts, a short skirt and a cute summer top or bikini, not only for the beach, but for a summer garden party or a good summer music festival . Besides the obvious 3 strand dutch and french braids ( oh and the fishtail braid which went into overkill a couple of years ago) I wanted to give you some other alternative ways to wear your braids.

At the bottom of this post are some of my favourite alternative braiding techniques with instructional “how to” videos for each one so you can perfect them on yourself.

The videos featured are The 5 Strand Braid, My version of a Rope Braid ( mixed with a Dutch Braid), The 4 Strand Braid and The Snake Braid.

They all are a lot easier to do than they look. Have fun creating some new braid looks on yourself or each other. I’m a great believer of experimenting with your hair.

You can also adorn your braids with hair accessories.. I recently did a hair shoot for Sunday Times Style Magazine, aka ST Style where I showed various ways to dress hair using the latest hair accessories. This particular shot to your left was one of the images from the shoot where I used the accessories on braids. It’s a great alternative way to decorate your braids. These particular accessories are by the wonderful Ashley Williams. These are the Cool Crystal, Word Hair Clips which are available at Liberty London and harvey Nichols. You get 2 clips for £110.00
