GLASTONBURY is back for 2019 folks!!
Festival season is upon us again and it’s the big one in the UK making the headlines.
The line up for this year is Stormzy, Janet Jackson, George Ezra, The Killers, Liam Gallagher, The Cure, Tame Impala, Chemical Brothers, Christine & The Queens, Billie Eillish, Neneh Cherry, Johnny Marrs, The Lumineers, The Charlatans, The Proclaimers, Myley Cyrus and yes, the pop Princess herself Kylie Minogue, and that’s just to name a few. Sounds like a lot of fun and something for everybody.
I have very fond, and not so fond, memories of my one and only time in Glastonbury. I did a huge shoot there with my dear friend, the late Corinne Day for British Vogue back in 2005 . Corinne loved a festival and so do I.
I must admit, Reading festival was always my go to festival every year, and I was so excited to be able to go to Glasto. As great as the experience was, and the wonderful people I went with, the weather was beyond appalling, copious amounts of rain and wading through knee deep mud with suitcases, and bags wasn't my idea of fun tbh, plus some of the people we experienced were very hostile towards us because we were trying to do a shoot there, but we saw through the negativity and carried on regardless to create some great images. I unfortunately only saw one band play and that was for only 10 minutes. The band was Garbage.
So I didn’t really get into the Glasto/festival experience as much as I would have liked to that year, but one of the biggest things I do remember from all my festival frequenting over the years is the great hairstyles I’ve seen on people. These will stay in my memories forever along with some of the great bands and artists I’ve seen perform.
Many of the hairstyles I’ve seen over the years were either blasted with some amazing hair colours or there was usually an array of braiding going on.
I’ve seen fishtail braids, rope braids, , twisted, braids, dutch braids, French braids, scalp braids, box braids, corn row braids, 5 Strand Braid, 4 Strand Braid, Snake Braids and so the list goes on.
You name them they were, and still are, all there!
To enhance your festival experience this year, below are some of my own tutorial videos of my favourite braids, for you to re-create should you be out and about this Summer.
After the videos you’ll also find a list of what I consider some of the best festivals in the UK after Glastonbury of course.
If you’re not one for camping, bad weather and a single ring gas cooker, there’s also a great one day festival listed too ( of which there are many btw) however, I do recommend doing the 2, 3 or even 4 dayers just to really get into the spirit of festivalling.
Happy braiding and hair playing. Oh, and if you want to see anymore of my tutorial’s there’s a plethora of them on my YouTube channel
