MEET THE LOVELY ROSIE TAPNER EVERYBODY ( AGAIN)
Rosie Tapner was discovered by Storm Model Management in 2011 at the Birmingham Clothes Show Live and at the age of 15, became the face of Balenciaga’s 2012 Campaign. Since then Rosie has appeared in campaigns for TopShop, Selfridges, Chloe, Burberry, and in editorials for British Vogue, LOVE, W Magazine and Numero, also being shot by the god of fashion photography himself, Steven Meisel.
In February 2014, the Daily Mail newspaper stated that she was “tipped to be the next Cara Delevingne”
ROSIE IN BRITISH VOGUE BY BEN TOMS MAY 2013
Right at that point of breaking big, Rosie became very disillusioned with the fashion industry after feeling quite burnt out following her hectic, heady start, and with much disappointment to the industry, she completely turned her back on the whole thing, even leaving her agency, and signed up to go to university. Retreating back to ‘normal life’ Rosie left London and went back home to Hertfordshire where she began to live like a ‘regular’ teenager again.
ROSIE IN THE BURBERRY SHOW 2013 AND ON THE COVER OF BRITISH VOGUE SUPPLEMENT MAY 2013 BY BEN TOMS.
Cut to March 2016 when I received an email from one of Rosie’s old agents Jamie, who had help to set up a new kind of model agency called The Squad Management.
Jamie informed me that Rosie had decided that at the ripe age of 20 she was now ready to return to modelling with a different head on her shoulders, and he was going to represent her, but with that return a new look was needed. So Jamie, Rosie and I met up to devise the plan of giving Rosie a whole new image for her re-launch. First, I cut her hair into a razored, choppy longer bob and also gave her a long choppy fringe for the first time. Next it was off to the Windle and Moodie salon in Covent Garden to pay a visit to one of the amazing colourists, Jesus. Initially we discussed with Jesus about Rosie having black hair, but that eventually changed to her going blonde as it seemed to be more conducive with her new haircut. With early Debbie Harry from Blondie and a young Kim Wilde as references Jesus set about creating Rosie’s new platinum blonde look.
And so here we are, mid November and Rosie’s career is well and truly back on track. Within a week of being officially announced as “Back”, Rosie was booked on an 80 page editorial and cover shoot for French Grazia’s Fashion Issue.
I’m also pleased to announce that Rosie became the Windle and Moodie AW16 Campaign star shot by Jem Mitchell, styled by the uber talented Tara St Hill with Hair by me of course ( see the pictures below).
Whilst all this was going on I asked Rosie if she would do a Q&A for me telling us all about herself, her time away and her comeback, and today I’m revealing that Q&A to you all.
So without further ado I give you British Comeback Model Of The Year, the wonderful, delightful and beautiful both inside and out………….
ROSIE IN THE WINDLE AND MOODIE AW16 CAMPAIGN – “FREE SPIRIT”
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?
I wanted to be the female version on David Attenborough (Still do)! Any job that involves animals and travel!
HOW DID YOU END UP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW?
I was scouted at the clothes show, my school took us there every year, it was huge fun but also very scary being approached by someone, I never thought I could model.
IS THERE ANYBODY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in Hertfordshire, in a little village called Chipperfield.
ROSIE AND I, BTS ON THE SELFRIDGES SHOOT IN 2013.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I’d put way more restaurants in it!
YOU’VE JUST TAKEN APPROX 2 YEARS OFF FROM MODELLING, WHAT MADE YOU DO THAT AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IN THOSE 2 YEARS?
I think honestly I just needed a break from the pressure, stop worrying what I looked like and what I was eating day to day and just go travelling and be slightly more normal. I started when I was 15 and was incredibly lucky to land a Balenciaga World Exclusive in my first week signed to my agency, things just took off without me really seeing it happen and I was whisked away to so many places and jobs everyday while I was at school…it was all completely incredible and I never regret doing any of it, but when I left school I didn’t have that security of a routine to come back to after a days work and suddenly that threw me out of control a little and I became very anxious and slightly saw my life just being work and not enough of teenage fun. So I decided that I needed to have my own fun and not miss out on a gap year and travelling and having some time to myself. I went travelling around New Zealand for a month with my boyfriend, jumping out of planes and off bridges and doing all sorts of other incredible activities…I also decided to go to university so that a normal routine would be put in place for me, I really like balancing work and study so I decided it was a good idea! I have just finished my first year there, and I didn’t want to work through my first year as I wanted to get to grips with my course and have everyone know me as me, rather than ‘That model’. But now I really can’t wait to juggle the both again!

YOU STARTED MODELING AT A VERY EARLY AGE, HAVING TAKEN THE TIME OUT, WHAT WAS YOUR PERCEPTION OF IT WHEN YOU WEREN’T IN THE THICK OF IT?
What’s really funny about this question is I thought taking time out would make me never want to do it again, and there were times when I was ready just to pack the whole thing in. But one day a very good friend of mine sent me a behind the scenes video for a campaign I did with a comment saying “Look how much fun you have when you work”. I watched the video and suddenly really missed being apart of it all and knew I couldn’t stop. It is the most insane world ever, completely mad in fact, and being a model comes with an enormous amount of pressure, jet lag and patience (on some jobs). But I much prefer being in it than away from it!

WHILST YOU WERE AT UNI, DID PEOPLE RECOGNISE YOU FROM YOUR PICTURES, AND AND HOW DID THEY TREAT YOU?
Luckily only a very small amount of people recognised me…as my housemates would tell you, they’ve never seen me out of gym clothes or trackies, so I don’t exactly make myself look like a model for people to recognise me! However on my first night at freshers week I was recognised and I have been a few times at my boyfriends uni too…it’s very strange and people do treat me differently if they know what I do, they instantly want to be my best friend…but I know who my real friends are!
YOU’RE HAVING A COMEBACK WITH A NEW AGENT AND A WHOLE NEW LOOK TOO, WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO RETURN TO MODELLING AND DO IT AGAIN?
It’s the only thing I’m half decent at doing haha! I just really really missed it! I missed the buzz of being in front of a camera and knowing how campaigns and editorials are made. I missed being part of a team everyday and travelling and meeting new, weird and wonderful people! I’m also the biggest chatterbox, so getting to meet new people everyday is pretty perfect!
My new agency is incredible and so much fun to work with, the people in there are all so lovely and my relationship with them all is very strong…Its the best move and decision I’ve ever made! We decided that we wanted to come back completely different and exciting, and so thanks to the incredible team at Windle and Moodie (especially to Neil and Jesus) I have
