#TBT BURBERRY SHOW AW2011 – MODERN TEXTURED 60’S PONYTAIL

#TBT – BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW AW2011.

ITS FIVE YEARS AGO SINCE I WORKED ON THIS SHOW, AND ONE OF THE FEW OCCASIONS WHEN WE CREATED A DIFFERENT KIND OF HAIR LOOK FOR THE BURBERRY SHOW ITSELF, AS IT WAS NORMALLY ALWAYS A TAKE ON A SIMILAR THEME.

OUR HAIR AND MAKE-UP TEST MODEL WAS NONE OTHER THAN CARA DELEVINGNE……. SHE WAS STILL ESTABLISHING HERSELF AS A MODEL AT THIS POINT.  IT WAS HER FIRST EVER APPEARANCE IN THE BURBERRY SHOW TOO. I REMEMBER HER BEING SO NERVOUS.  THE FOLLOWING SEASON SHE WENT ON TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE SHOW AS HER CAREER BEGAN TO BLOSSOM.

The show took place in the shadow of the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens,  the same week Burberry took 13th place on Fast Company‘s list of the world’s most innovative companies.

Former model for Burberry Jean Shrimpton was Christopher Bailey’s inspiration for the show, hence the 60’s vibe of the hair…..

Below are images of Cara we took once the hair and make up was approved plus a link to the actual show if you wish to take a look.

It was the first season that the divine Jourdan Dunn opened the show too…… now another little British superstar model.

Later in the year we replicated some of this show mixed with amazing holograms in Beijing to launch Burberry opening their first store in China. Below is also a link of an edited version of the hologram show in Beijing.

JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY – FEATURING TRACEY ULLMAN.

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

tracey-ullman-1

TODAYS JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY FEATURES ONE OF BRITAIN’S FUNNIEST, MOST SUCCESSFUL AND RICHEST FEMALE COMEDIANS OF ALL TIMES. TRACEY ULLMAN.

She’s also the third richest British comedian overall plus the second richest British actress ever.

Quite a big feat for a girl from Slough in Buckinghamshire.

At the age of 12 Tracey won a scholarship for the Itali Conti Academy, a theatre arts training school in London.  She would end up loathing Italia Conti saying that she ” hated the pressure that many of the children were under. Many of the kids were forced to grow up too fast, their careers were being decided for them before they were 13″.

Tracey had already made a name for herself as a comedian with her BBC comedy series Three of a Kind in the early 80’s, but had a chance encounter with the wife of the head of the punk music label Stiff records, Dave Robinson. The meeting led to her recording her first album. “One day, I was at my hairdresser, and Dave Robinson’s wife Rosemary leant over and said, ‘Do you want to make a record?’ I was having some of those Boy George  kind of dreadlock things put in and I went, ‘Yeah I want to make a record.’ I would have tried anything”.

TRACEY IN THE 80’S

Her 1983 debut album featured her first hit single, Breakaway ( becoming famous for her performance with a hairbrush as a microphone), and the international hit cover version of label-mate Kirsty MacColl’s  They Don’t Know, written by Kirsty too,  which reached number two in the UK, and number eight in the United States. MacColl sang backing vocals on Ullman’s version. Within two years, Tracey had had six songs in the UK Top 100.

She gave up her music career after an incident that occurred on a German television show. Thankfully though, Tracey recorded one of my favourite ever songs by Kirsty MacColl and here it is today for you as my Just Another Moodie Monday choice.

Dazed  by Corinne Day Sept 1997

THIS WEEK ITS THE BIRTHDAY OF FASHION, STYLE MAGAZINE FORMERLY KNOWN AS DAZED AND CONFUSED, NOW KNOWN AS DAZED.

IT’S ACTUALLY 25 YEARS SINCE THE MAGAZINE LAUNCHED

Dazed  is a monthly British style magazine founded in 1991. Its founding editors were Jefferson Hack and fashion photographer Rankin with stylist Katie Grand ( Rankin’s then girlfriend) appointed as Fashion Director. It covers music, fashion, film, art, and literature

Beginning in their office originally on Brewer Street, below my friend Corinne Day’s flat, it first appeared as a black-and-white folded poster published sporadically, but the magazine soon turned full colour, promoted with London club nights.

In 1999 Dazed Film & TV was founded, a production company that would produce the first masthead television broadcast ever, the one-hour special Renegade TV Gets Dazed, for Channel 4. In 2001 the Dazed Group, as it styled itself, launched the luxury biannual AnOther Magazine then in 2005  launched Another Man, a biannual fashion title for men. In November 2006, Dazed launched a new web based strand of the magazine titled Dazed Digital, which delivers fashion, film, music and art news and online events. In April 2002 Dazed & Confused Japan was launched, and on 16 May 2008, Dazed & Confused Korea published its first issue.

For it’s anniversary issue there are 9 covers see below.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAZED……..

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY – DAVE ALLEN ON POST OFFICES

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

maxresdefault

Hello Monday People!

It’s that day again… where we don’t want to get up and go to work..

Well todays Comedy Moday should keep you tittering for a while. It stars Dave Allen. Dave (6 July 1936 – 10 March 2005), was an Irish observational comedian and satirist whose career began in Australia in  the early 60s after he moved there to further his career.

At the height of his career he was Britain’s most controversial comedian, regularly provoking indignation at his frequent highlighting of political hypocrisy and his disregard for religious authority.

His act was typified by a relaxed and intimate style. He sat on a high stool smoking and occasionally sipping from a glass of what he always allowed people to assume was whiskey,  but in fact was ginger ale with ice. He was actually a sober-minded man who, though sometimes appeared crotchety and irritable on stage, he always gave off an air of charm and serene melancholy both in his act and in real life. Each day, he pored over newspapers, scribbling notes and ideas for his routines.

Along with his seated stand-up  routines, his television shows were interspersed with filmed sketch comedy.

Todays clip is Dave doing his typical observational comedy and he;s talking about going into a modern post office. This clip is actually from the 90’s but is still relevant today, thats what makes it so brilliant.

JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY – TIGHT FIT, THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT.

IN THE JUNGLE, THE MIGHTY JUNGLE, THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT – THAT’S HOW THE STORY GOES ANYWAY.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight“, also known as Wimoweh, Wimba Way, or Awimbawe , is a song written and recorded originally by Solomon Linda with the Evening Birds in 1939, under the title “Mbube”.  Originally written  in Zulu it was covered  by many 1950s pop and folk artists.  In 1961, it became a huge hit in the United States, adapted in English with the best-known version by the doo-wop group The Tokens. Not only did it hit the number one spot but it went on to earn at least $15 million in royalties from cover versions and film licensing.

lionsleeps-520x520

British group Tight Fit re-recorded it in 1981 with  producer Tim Friese Greene, and unexpectedly the song went to Number 1 in the UK, selling over a million copies in 1982 sending the group into unexpected stardom.

The video was considered provocative for its time and the group regularly performed the song in the same jungle-esque, Tarzan & Jane outfits.

The band consisted of Steve Grant , Denise Gyngell & Julie Harris. After a few line up changes further down the line the original line up eventually got back together and in 2010 they began touring in a show called “Back to the Eighties”, performing well-known songs from the 1980s as well as their own hits.  The 3 band members are stated as holding the trademark to the name Tight Fit in relation to all music and publishing.

So enjoy this little song and have a dance around your living room. Trust me, it’s very catchy, and you’ll find yourself humming it all day……….
