#TBT – MY STORY SO FAR (AND THE HAIRCUTS) OLD PICS FROM MY ROOM MATE IN NYC

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 18.27.08

My room-mate Anita and I

I LIVED IN NEW YORK FROM 1996 – 2001

5 and a half years to be exact.

MY STORY SO FAR (AND THE HAIRCUTS) – on this occasion its the wigs…..

For the first year I lived in the East Village, and then the next 4 and a half years on Broom Street ( Lolita)

They were 5 great years and I had a great time living in the Big Apple. All of my room mates are all in the fashion industry, Rachael, who was the 1st, was a model, then Virginia Young,  a make-up artist and then Anita Bitton, who is now a big casting agent, but was a model booker at Ford Model Management when we met.

I had a lot of fun with all of them and Anita was who I lived with the longest. She recently posted some pictures on her Instagram page that I just had to share with you.

Being a hairdresser comes with its benefits – one of them being having wigs in your kit. We were never shy of dressing up and having fun. ( I believe I’ve posted my fake mullet picture before on here from my time in NYC- I’m going to share it again today just for the heck of it hahaha)

Anyway, Anita has found this picture of when we dressed up for one halloween, and I decided to go as Axel Rose from Guns and Roses. All i can say is, I’m not quite sure I completely pulled it off. I’ll let you decide……….

JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY – PRINCE “1999”

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Prince-1999

FOLLOWING THE SAD DEATH LAST WEEK OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE OF PURPLE, WHAT BETTER WAY TO GET THE WEEK STARTED THAN WHAT I CONSIDER ONE OF THE BEST SINGALONG SONGS OF ALL TIME.

1999 BY PRINCE.

IT NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION – JUST PRESS PLAY, START TO DANCE AND SING WHEN THE SONG KICKS IN.

BTW THE MEANING OF THE SONG IS AS FOLLOWS:

Prince came up with a catchy single that doubles up as a hard-hitting protest song. When the album 1999 hit the music shops in 1982, the US President Ronald Reagan had just settled into the U.S. office and was advocating the use of nuclear weapons and bombing. “1999” was about Prince predicting that everyone would eventually possess a weapon in their own home because of this nuclear push, so you might as well party like it’s the end of the world.

AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON”T KNOW ALL THE LYRICS, HERE THEY ARE FOR YOU TO FOLLOW:

I was dreamin’ when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin’, could’ve sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple, there were people runnin’ everywhere
Tryin’ to run from the destruction, you know I didn’t even care

Say say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine

I was dreamin’ when I wrote this, so sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a party and parties weren’t meant to last
War is all around us, my mind says prepare to fight
So if I gotta die I’m gonna listen to my body tonight

Yeah hey, they say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine
Yeah, yeah, hey

People, let me tell you somethin’

If you didn’t come to party, don’t bother knockin’ on my door, oww
I got a lion in my pocket and baby he’s ready to roar, yeah hey
Everybody’s got a bomb, we could all die any day, oh
But before I let that happen, I’ll dance my life away, oh ho

They say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
(We’re runnin’ out of time)
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine
(We gonna, we gonna, oh)

Say it one more time
Two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
(No, no)
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine
(We gonna, we gonna)

Alright, nineteen ninety-nine
You say it, nineteen ninety-nine
Mmm nineteen ninety-nine
(Oww, nineteen ninety-nine)

Don’t stop it, don’t stop it, say it one more time
Two thousand zero zero party over, oops out of time
(Yeah, yeah)
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine
(We gonna, we gonna, whoa)
Yeah, nineteen ninety-nine
Don’t you wanna go?
(Nineteen ninety-nine)
Don’t you wanna go?
(Nineteen ninety-nine)
We could all die any day
(Nineteen ninety-nine)
I don’t wanna die, I’d rather dance my life away
(Nineteen ninety-nine)

Listen to what I’m tryin’ to say
Everybody, everybody say party
Come on now, you say it party
That’s right, everybody say party
Can’t run from revelation, no
(Party)
Sing it for your nation, y’all
(Party)
(Ow!)
Dreamin’ when you’re singin’, baby
(Party)
Say the telephone a ringin’, mama, now
(Party)
Come on, come on, you say
(Party)
Everybody, two times
(Party)
(Ow!)
Work it down to the ground, I’m sayin’
(Party)
Oh baby, say it again
(Ooh hoo hoo)
(Party)
Oh, shake your body, baby!
(Party)
That’s right, come on, sing the song
(Party)
Ah aah ha
(Party)
That’s right
(Party)
Got a lion in my pocket mama, say
(Party)
Ah, and he’s ready to roar
(Party)

Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?
Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?

RIP PRINCE.

I worked on her first ever shoot in London when she still couldn’t speak any English to then go on and do numerous editorials with her and many shoots for Victoria Secrets and even a TV commercial for Apple.

But more recently Gisele commissioned 4 photographers to shoot her specifically for the book, and  was lucky enough to get chosen to do the hair for one of these shoots with newish British Photographer extraordinaire Tyrone LeBon.

I recently received my copy of the book and have finally seen these new pics in the book, and here they are below for you to see for the first time.

SADLY YESTERDAY ANOTHER MUSIC LEGEND PASSED AWAY

PRINCE.

Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016), known just as Prince, was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. Prince was seen as an innovator and known especially for his flamboyant stage presence, wide vocal range and numerous musical skills. He not only wrote but produced and sang his own music. His music integrates a wide variety of styles, including funk, rock, R&B, soul, psychedelia and pop.

He sold over 100 million albums worldwide, won 7 Grammys, a golden globed and an academy award.

His first album Prince went platinum in 1979 producing hit singles Why You wanna Treat Me so Bad and I Wanna Be Your Lover. His next three albums Dirty Mind ( 1980) Controversy (1981) and 1999 (1982) gave him continued success,  incorporating funk, dance, and rock music.  In 1984, he began referring to his backup band as The Revolution and released his album Purple Rain which was the soundtrack to his film debut of the same name.

After releasing the albums Around The World In 80 days ( 1985) and Parade ( 1986) his band The Revolution disbanded and Prince released the double album Sign O’ The Times in 1987 as a solo artist. He released three more solo albums before debuting his new band The New Pawer Generation in 1991. He changed his stage name in 1993 to an unpronounceable symbol Prince logo.svg, also known as the “Love Symbol”. He then began releasing new albums at a much faster pace to remove himself from contractual obligations to Warner Bros releasing five records between 1994 and 1996 before signing to Arista Records in 1998. In 2000, he began calling himself  “Prince” again. He released 15 albums after that; his final album being HITnRUN Phase which was first released exclusively on the Tidal streaming service on December 11, 2015. Yesterday, April 21, 2016, Prince died at his Paisley Park recording studio and home in Minnesota following reports of illness.

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY. – LITTLE BRITAIN FOR COMIC RELIEF WITH SIR ELTON JOHN

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

_65684721_05tv_050401_006

LITTLE BRITAIN IS ONE OF OUR MAJOR COMEDY BRITISH EXPORTS OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS.

COMIC RELIEF IS A CHARITY that states its aim is to “bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people”

It is an annual event held on TV with many comedians taking part once a year, with events going on all year round up and down the country to raise money for the underprivileged. It is known as Red Nose Day.

Each year some comics create special sketches for the annual TV show and this particular year 2009, the guys from Little Britain, Matt Lucas and David Walliams decided to do a sketch where they invited Elton John to be interviewed by one of their most memorable characters Daffyd played by Matt Lucas. Daffyd Thomas comes from Wales and is known ( or so he thinks) as “the only gay in the village”

I’ll leave you to find out the rest by watching this hilarious sketch……..

Should you wish to donate today to comic relief click on this link here: DONATE

HAPPY MONDAY PEOPLE!!

Burberry April Showers S:S 11, Jacob Sutton Cara Delevingne, Sebastian Brice, Sty Elliott Smedley, M-Up Wendy Rowe 2AS WE ALL KNOW APRIL CAN BE A PRETTY WET MONTH, THIS YEARS BEING NO EXCEPTION.

BACK IN 2011 BURBERRY DECIDED TO RELEASE A COLLECTION CALLED APRIL SHOWERS, BASED AROUND THE GOOD OLD BRITISH WEATHER………. featuring items such as Trench coats ( of course), Water proofs,  Umbrellas, and Bags. This mid season campaign starred the then relatively unknown but now rather famous Cara Delevingne and Burberry fave Sebastian Brice.

We spent 3 days in a studio getting wet, having fun and jumping around in water a lot with the great photographer and director Jacob Sutton.

Anyway, I thought I’d share these pics with you to help get you through this wet month and start to look forward to the warmer months ahead of us……. I’ve also found the little moving mini ad that was made too.

Seeing the divine Cara and the rather handsome Seb, is enough to cheer any old wet grey day up.

BACK IN 2011 I met a young 17 year old on a shoot for Burberry Beauty that was due to launch in SS11 of that year.

That beauty was Cara Delevingne, a fairly unknown model whose career was about to be catapulted into the stratosphere.

I can’t believe it’s 5 years ago already that I first met this divine little creature who I’ve since become friends with and have worked with on numerous occasions also.

And so I wanted to share these images with you all………

JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY… JILTED JOHN

JUST ANOTHER MOODIE MONDAY FEATURES JILTED JOHN BY JILTED JOHN.

Jilted John was a character created in 1978 by then Drama student at Manchester Polytechnic, Graham Fellows.

He said he’d written a couple of songs and wanted to record them, so he went into a local record shop and asked if they knew any indie or punk labels. He called up a local label Rabid which led him to taking in his demo. Rabid loved it… and so they re-recorded it a few days later, at Pennine Studios.

“Jilted John” was first played on BBC’s Radio 1 by DJ John Peel who mentioned that if the single was promoted by a major record label he could see it becoming a big hit. It was suddenly picked up by EMI International and before he knew it Graham was appearing on the UK leading music charts show  Top Of The Pops and Jilted John was noted as being “one of the most bizarre singles of the decade”. The track peaked at NO 4 in the UK charts. Despite releasing other tracks and one album Jilted John became a One Hit Wonder for Graham.

In 1986 Fellows created another character John Shuttleowrth , an aspiring singer-songwriter from Sheffield with a quiet manner and nerdish tendencies.

He’s appeared on numerous TV shows since as an actor, most notably in British soap Coronation Street and also created the characters Brian Appleton and Dave Tordoff. Brian is a rock musicologist and media studies lecturer from a college of further education in the Newcastle area although originally hailing from Birmingham. His girlfriend Wendy is an aromatherapist, but upon qualifying she became allergic to the essential oils she uses. He is convinced that he has been instrumental in helping many rock acts to achieve megastardom and yet received no credit for his efforts. Dave is  a builder from Goole specialising in ‘laser screed’ concrete flooring. He has ambitions to become an after dinner speaker  having seen how easy it was for former footballer Kevin Keegan.

The above info has been gathered from Graham Fellows Wikipedia Page.

Anyway let’s get on with job in hand and give us all a piece of Jilted John.

And just to give you a helping hand I’ve posted the lyrics underneath. – Happy Monday Everyone. ( check out the guy dancing to the right in the video – genius…….

JILTED JOHN

I’ve been going out with a girl,
her name is Julie
But last night she said to me,
when we were watching telly

(This is what she said)

She said listen John, I love you
But there’s this bloke, I fancy
I don’t want to two time you,
so it’s the end for you and me

Who’s this bloke I asked her
Goooooordon, she replied
Not THAT puff, I said dismayed
Yes but he’s no puff she cried

(He’s more of a man than you’ll ever be)

Here we go, two three four

I was so upset that I cried,
all the way to the chip shop

When I came out there was Gordon,
standing at the bus stop

(And guess who was with him? Yeah, Julie, and they were both laughing at me)

Oh, she is cruel and heartless
to pack me for Gordon
Just cos he’s better looking than me
Just cos he’s cool and trendy

But I know he’s a moron, Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron, Gordon is a moron

Here we go, two three four

Oh she’s a slag and he’s a creep
She’s a tart, he’s very cheap
She is a slut, he thinks he’s tough
She is a bitch, he is a puff
Yeah yeah, it’s not fair
Yeah yeah, it’s not fair

(I’m so upset)

I’m so upset, I’m so upset, yeah yeah

(I ought to smash his face in.)

(Yeah, but he’s bigger than me. In’t he?)

(I know, I’ll get my mate Barry to hit him. He’d flatten him)

(Yeah but Barry’s a mate of Gordon’s in’e?)

(Oh well, I don’t care)

I don’t care
I don’t care
Cause she’s a slag and he’s a creep
she’s a tart, he’s very cheap
she is a slut, he thinks he’s tough……

MY NEW EDITORIAL OUT NOW. – SSAW MAGAZINE SS16 BY NAN GOLDIN

Nan Goldin, mod:sty Tara St Hill, Mathias Van Hoof SS16 Cover

I’M SUPER EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT MY FIRST EVER SHOOT WITH THE LEGENDARY ART PHOTOGRAPHER NAN GOLDIN IS NOW OUT, AND STARS MY DEAR FRIEND TARA ST HILL.

Tara, who is a stylist in her own right has been a friend, and working companion for a long time. She was also one of Corinne Day’s muses from many years, appearing in both of Corinne’s books, Diary and May The Circle Remain Unbroken.

This shoot has just come out in SSAW magazine. SSAW is a Helsinki and London-based biannual fashion and culture magazine that brings together the best of Finnish and international talent.

Not one for being photographed these days, the magazine asked Tara if she would appear in a shoot, styling herself and she agreed to do it but only with a photographer she trusted. She met Nan through Corinne I believe and Nan photographed Tara’s daughter at an early age as she found her beautiful and fascinating to photograph.

And so here are the results of this most recent shoot, where Tara has styled herself in her favourite choices of clothes taken from the SS 16 collections.
