Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Hi Peeps, happy comedy Monday to you.

So I found this guy on Youtube, Steve Riks, funny as hell, specialises in impersonating musicians mainly from the 60’s and 70’s. He can do all the members of the Beatles, The Bee Gees and The Rolling Stones and he mainly releases his material via Youtube. I found this clip of him impersonating Mick Jagger, enjoy!!

ICEBERG SHOW S/S16 MILAN FASHION WEEK……

HI GUYS……

So i’m in Milan working on fashion week here. I did my first show yesterday which I wanted to share with you because its not only my first time of working on this show but also the first time for the designer, Arthur Arbesser,  working on his  inaugural collection for the brand.

Born in Vienna and studying fashion at the famous Central St Martins College in London, Arthur launched his own line in Milan in Late 2012 and show used his first collection in February 2013.

Arthur Backstage with the models…….

For his new appointed position at Iceberg Arthur took the “dada” work of the Italian artist Enrico Baj as his starting point, with bold prints on a silk dress and the plastic badges pinned to the chest of some pieces, creating a loose, military vibe. The knitwear he gave a  preppy-psychedelic feeling with a body-conscious fit.

I created grunge naive hair on the girls taking the idea of virginal untouched hair as the theme by using Windle and Moodie Foundation Spray as a base, parting the hair in the centre with a naturally formed part as opposed to a forced, hard line, then naturally dried the hair with a diffuser ( the equivalent of air drying but speeded up). Once dried I took the new Windle and Moodie Sheen Spray ( due to launch beginning of next year……. EXCLUSIVE,  EXCLUSIVE!!!!) and sprayed the roots to give it a natural oiled  feel.

See all the images below from the show. Most of these images were taken by Reuben Moore, Matteo Vale   and Marcus Tondo with a few of my own……..

Make up was by the legendary Val Garland and Styling by Phoebe Arnold.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY – GISELE BUNDCHEN, BRITISH VOGUE BY PATRICK DEMARCHELIER

Today’s Flashback Friday is replacing y’days Throw back Thursday.

Sorry guys, I’ve been super busy and we forgot to post my usual Thursday post so to make up for it here’s an extra Friday Post with a special cover of supermodel Gisele Bundchen from April 2005

In the late 1990s, Gisele was the first in a wave of Brazilian models to find international success. In 1999 Vogue magazine quoted “The Return of the Sexy Model”, and Gisele was credited with ending the so called “Heroin Chic” era of modelling. She was one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels from 2000 until 2007, where she bagged one of the biggest supposed contracts VS had ever given.  Since 2004, she has been the highest-paid model in the world, and as of 2007 was the 16th richest woman in the entertainment industry. In 2012 she placed first on the Forbes top-earning models list. As of 2014, she is listed as the 89th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

And so on that note I give you one of Gisele’s many Vogue Covers which I worked on.  Also have a read of my funny story behind getting to this shoot below…………

_uV44IB-ApedbECoNgMNgOcgirpLTFYzv7BjByDdcCE

There’s a funny story behind this shoot. I was in New York the day before the shoot happened and was taking a flight in the evening to LA where this shoot was taking place.

As I began my journey to JFK airport in New York a huge snow storm hit the city and within an hour so much snow had fallen over the whole city that roads were closing left right and centre.

I called my agent from the taxi saying I didn’t think I was going to make the flight. My driver was struggling to get through the snow and we were hearing on the radio that JFK were cancelling all their flights.

I explained to my driver that I was trying to get to the airport as I was shooting a Vogue cover of Gisele the next morning in LA and he insisted that there was no way he could see me miss that and that he would get me to the airport regardless of the weather.

He took every road possible and somehow through this treacherous weather he managed to get me to JFK. As I got into the airport they announced that all flights were being grounded. “What was I going to do?”

I was on American Airlines and as I approached the check-in desk the lady told me my flight was cancelled due to the weather conditions. I explained to her what I was trying to do and yet again like the taxi driver she insisted on trying to get me there. She said that if I could get to La Guardia airport they could get me on a connecting flight to Texas as they’d managed to clear the runways there from snow quicker than JFK . How on earth was I going to get there though?

Meanwhile Sophie Baudrand the Vogue bookings editor at the time was informed that I probably couldn’t make it, but I was in  direct contact with her and insisted that I would somehow get to LA so they wouldn’t be without a hairstylist.

I somehow ( and looking back,  probably dangerously so) persuaded a NY yellow cab to take me to LA Guardia airport. We slipped and slid all over the roads ( slowly of course) but this driver somehow got me to LA Guardia airport and miraculously I got on a flight to Texas that evening, which ended up being the last flight out of La Guardia before they closed the airport down due to the snow.

I connected to another flight in Texas at 12.30am and landed in LA at 3.30am, arriving at my hotel at 5am

All I can say is that I was on set at 8am ( on time by the way )  that morning,  and this cover was born…….. We finished shooting by 1pm and we were having lunch on the beach at 1.30…..

At British Vogue I became known as the Intrepid Hairdresser. It was worth it too, as this has ended up being one of my favourite ever Vogue covers….. It is with Gisele after all

I want to say a huge thank you to my first driver, the yellow cab driver and the ladies who helped me at American Airlines in JFK and LA Guardia for their help in getting me to LA. I have no idea who they are but I’m sure good things would have come to these people.

In May of this year I flew to Stockholm in Sweden for a shoot. The shoot was for Japanese Vogue and the whole team stayed just outside of Stockholm on the edge of the sea.

The model was the British beauty Lily Donaldson who is back modelling after taking a short sabbatical.

Lily looks better than ever and on the day of the shoot we took a boat into the Swedish Archipelago and began shooting this amazing story on very remote islands. When we were there I knew it was going to be a special shoot because the landscape was out of this world, but now the shoot has just been published it’s just reminded me how amazingly beautiful it was where we were, and the story is even more special than i ever imagined.

I hope you enjoy looking at these images as much as we all enjoyed making them……..

SUPERMODEL 31 – TODAY STARRING ARIZONA MUSE

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Screen Shot 2015-09-03 at 18.14.26

Hi All, and we’re back with Supermodel 31, Part 3- Going in alphabetical order today its the turn of American model Arizona Muse.

Supermodel 31 is a list that was made of all the top models that have achieved the ultimate goal of appearing on all 4 Covers of the most prestigious Vogue Magazines

 American, British, French and Italian.

Arizona is the 3rd on the list. I’ve already featured Angela Lindvall and Amber Valletta. Here’s a little info on Arizona and her rise to Supermodel 31 fame…………..

Arizona Muse began modelling as a teenager but her career did not begin until after she had her son Nikko in 2009.  She’s appeared in editorials in numerous issues of Vogues around the World, W Magazine, Numero, iD and Dazed amongst many others.

Her sudden rise to stardom was the feature of an article in American Vogue.. Not long after she did her first US Vogue shoot with Peter Lindbergh, she was invited in to meet the famous editor, Anna Wintour. Afterwards, Anna called her “a gorgeous, smart grown-up”, comparing her to Linda Evangelista and Natalia Vodianova. “She said some cool things about me. I owe her quite a lot.” said Arizona. Such  is the power of Anna Wintour in the fashion world that just by saying that Arizona had supermodel potential she actually made it so.

In September 2010 she made her catwalk debut at the New York shows, then Prada booked her to open and close its show in Milan the same month. For an unknown model to take the most prestigious slot in one of the biggest events in the fashion calendar is like an unseeded tennis player reaching the final at Wimbledon, and then winning. Arizona hadn’t even been to Italy before, and said she didn’t really take in what a big deal it was.

In March 2011 Dazed  magazine dedicated a whole issue to her. She has appeared in many campaigns including Louis Vuitoon alongside David Bowie, Jil Sander, Prada,  Miu Miu, Nina Ricci, working with photographers such as David Sims, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel and Paolo Roversi.

#TBT FROM MY EDITORIAL ARCHIVE – L’UOMO VOGUE BY CORINNE DAY

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

08 - Corinne Day - L'Uomo Vogue, Models Jackson & Mark, Fashion Editor Ashley Elliott, October 2010

TODAYS #TBT I’M DELVING INTO MY MENS EDITORIAL ARCHIVE…..

Today it’s a shoot from Italian Conde Nast, L’Uomo Vogue.

Corinne loved to shoot men as much as she did women, and she definitely had a soft spot for guys with long hair ( a bit rock n roll basically)

There were 2 models in this shoot ( Jackson who is in the first shot above) and Mark, the darker haired guy. Theres a bit of a story behind both these 2 boys and why they were in the shoot. Jackson is a musician, a Flamenco Guitarist to be exact, and back in 2005 when we shot this, he was dating British actress Sadie Frost. There was some controversy in the press with their relationship due to their age difference, Jackson being the younger. Their relationship lasted 2 years and it was apparently a quite bitter breakup. I found this article on contactmusic.com ( I’ve copied it below) just after they broke up in Aug 2015.

QUOTE: Jackson Scott insists he was simply “using” the former wife of Jude Law for publicity – but his manipulative efforts backfired after he became a figure of ridicule in the media.

The flamenco guitarist, who was dumped by the fashion designer last week (ends12AUG), freely admits his romance with the well-connected Frost was merely a bid to boost his music career, but he resented being treated as a “dumb toy-boy.”

A friend explains to British newspaper the Mail On Sunday, “He said it was he who was using Sadie, not the other way around and that he had thought she could help him make it in the music industry.

“But instead he felt he was made to look foolish and treated like a glorified nanny.

“He said to me: ‘I’m constantly being portrayed in the media as some sort of dumb toy boy, someone who accompanies Sadie to parties. As if I have no personality or profession. I’m a musician.’ ” UNQUOTE

I say no more on that matter, but let me tell you about Mark, the other boy in pictures. He was my first assistant at the time and was helping me on the shoot. Corinne liked the way he looked and asked him to be in pictures. Simples……………

And so this shoot was born, with “Red” as the theme and styled by a new stylist Corinne found at the time called Ashley Elliott. ( incidentally, Ashley dressed a little like this shoot himself) I remember Ashley was about 3-4 hours late for the shoot and it was his first time of working with Corinne. Luckily she liked him enough that she forgave him……….

Hope you like the pics as much as I do.
