A LITTLE BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY, TENNIS MEETS FASHION SPECIAL.

Rafael-Nadal-campaign

THE 2015 US TENNIS OPEN STARTS TODAY. IT’S THE LAST OF THE 4 MAJOR TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS OF THE YEAR.

WHO WILL WIN ?

IN THE WOMEN’S DRAW, SERENA WILLIAMS IS GOING FOR GRAND SLAM HISTORY BY TRYING TO WIN HER 4TH MAJOR OF THE YEAR. SHE ALREADY HAS THE AUSTRALIAN, FRENCH AND WIMBLEDON TO HER NAME AND SHOULD SHE WIN THE US THEN SHE’LL BE THE FIRST SINCE STEFFI GRAF LAST DID IT IN 1988

IN THE MEN’S DRAW IT’S MORE WIDE OPEN, WITH DJOKOVIC BATTLING FOR TOTAL MATCH FITNESS, MURRAY RETURNING TO FULL FORM, FEDERER HAVING A SURGE LATE IN THE SEASON WITH WINS OVER DJOKO AND MURRAY, THEN THERE’S THE DEFENDING CHAMPION, MARIN CILIC WHO DE-THRONED DJOKO LAST YEAR.

ANYWAY ENOUGH ABOUT THAT, I HEAR YOU ALL SAYING, WHAT ABOUT THE FASHION?

Well, although not fully on form and only standing at No.8 in the world Rafael Nadal is still in contention for the US Open as he recovers from injury, but he has struck Gold, in his new ads for Tommy Hilfiger. We’re already seeing the ads on the sides of buses here in London but the Tv commercial has just been released and it’s probably the cheekiest we’ve ever seen Nadal. He starred in the Armani ads back in 2011 in just underwear or a pair of jeans and topless, but Tommy have got him to go a little further.

He’s stripping in the ad!!! Yes ladies ( and interested gents) He’s STRIPPING!!!

Just how far does he go?? Check out the ad below to see.

Game Set and Crotch to Nadal I’d say!!!

And if anybody missed it, here’s the Armani Ad that Rafa appeared in in 2011 also…..

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY JULIA DAVIS – NIGHTY NIGHT – TERRY’S AFFAIR

nighty_night_1&2_300

Happy Bank Holiday Monday Brits, and Happy Monday to everyone else around the World.

Nighty Night is a dark BBC television sitcom written by and starring the genius that is Julia Davis. Notorious for her dark humour, the show follows narcissistic sociopath Jill Tyrell (Julia Davis) – who manages a beauty parlour alongside her moronic, asthmatic assistant Linda (Ruth Jones) – as she learns that her husband Terry (Kevin Eldon) has cancer.

I would recommend to beg, Steal or borrow the 2 series if you can, but expect it dark……….

#TBT MY EDITORIAL ARCHIVE – KATE MOSS, BRITISH VOGUE FEB 2002, CORINNE DAY

Corinne Day and Kate Moss, are rarely mentioned without each other when people talk about them in fashion.

Corinne was the photographer that picked up on Kate as a 15 year old, when she first started modelling. She didn’t fit the model mode at the time but Corinne saw something in Kate she liked as a new up and coming photographer and started to take pictures of her for the Face magazine and then when Corinne was asked to shoot for Vogue for the first time, she used Kate as her main girl and they both ended up with their first ever Vogue cover. The rest as the cliche goes, is history but whenever the 2 of them worked together, magic seemed to happen.

This particular shoot was for British Vogue too and Kate was growing out a short haircut she’d been sporting for a while.

The idea of the shoot was that Kate was some free spirited girl at a festival, into a folky type of vibe and love to draw innocent tattoo like shapes on her face and body.

The make-up genius that is Val Garland was brought in to do the make-up on this occasion. Val wasn’t one of Corinne’s regular make-up artists she worked with and it took a little time for them to understand each others aesthetic in the beginning, but we got there and these beautiful pictures were created. I added a skinny braid to mates hair to make her growing out haircut look more interesting and festival like.

I also remember on this shoot sitting with Kate having a cigarette and her telling me she thought she might be pregnant….. low and behold she was and approx 9 months later her daughter was born – funny world………

Posting this shoot today is very poignant for me also because its 5 years ago today that Corinne sadly passed away following her battle with a cancerous brain tumour. We all miss her terribly…….

Q&A- MANICURIST AND NAIL ARTIST, MICHELLE HUMPHREY

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

AoSZUic2

Today my Q&A features a nail artist and manicurist who I love to work with……….. her name is Michelle Humphrey – first off she laughs at my jokes so I knew we would get on LOL. The first time I met Michelle I thought oooh, she’s chatty, but not in a bad way…….. by the end of the day we were giggling and laughing together. Every now and again a new person comes along in the fashion industry and blows your mind off, Michelle is definitely one of those people.

Manicurists began to come along to shoots not that long ago. I remember the days when the make-up artist was expected to do the nails. Some people found them a help, some people found them annoying and in the way.  I think they help to bring something extra along to a shoot……….. Michelle definitely brings a lot, her amazing work for one, her charisma and her professionalism. She’s got the loot really when it comes to manicurists and to prove it she became ambassador for Maybelline New York for nails…….

I don;t think there’s anything else left for me to say apart from, have a read of her Q&A to get a bit more of an insight into this charming young lady and have a perusal at some of her amazing work along the way.

Take it away Michelle.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

An air hostess! Then I got scared of flying (I’m fine now though)

HOW DID YOU BEGIN DOING MANICURES AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO WORKING ON SHOOTS.?

Initially self-taught; I did my own acrylic nails from the age of 15.  I got my official NVQ qualifications at the age of 20. I then spent 7 years working in various nail salons where I became qualified to master level.  As a motivated and career driven person, I hit a brick wall when I had spent 7 years in salons and could no longer develop my job role.  The choices were to own my own salon or move into the session industry.  I chose the latter and here I am 3 years on and loving it.

IS THERE ANYBODY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?

Tough question,

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

In West London.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?

The weather!!!

WERE ANY OF YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS INVOLVED IN THE INDUSTRY AND IF SO DID THEY HELP YOU LEARN TO DEAL WITH IT, AND IT’S DEMANDS?

Nobody! I suppose I found my own way and was lucky to meet the right people along the way.

michellehumphrey

YOU’RE THE SPOKEPERSON FOR NAILS FOR MAYBELLINE NEW YORK, HOW LONG HAVE YOU HELD THAT POSITION AND WHAT KIND OF THINGS DOES IT ENTAIL?

I’ve worked with Maybelline New York for around 3 years. The tasks I have to do throughout the year varies…

The main jobs are:

Shoots, providing quotes, heading up my team at London fashion week, Nail art videos, advertorials, press events, campaigns, celebrity work, press junkets, trend seminars, office visits, social media, product feedback, and generally anything they need me to help out with.

LIST YOUR TOP 5 FAVOURITE BEAUTY/NAIL PRODUCTS. ( NOT ALL NAILS THOUGH)

Rapid Brow growth serum – this literally helps you grow your brows if they’re looking a bit thin or sparse. Perfect now thicker brows are on trend.

Clinique Dramatically Different Plus. This is a face cream is a must have in my beauty bag, I’ve used it for years.

Maybelline New York BB cream, I love this as I don’t like my make up too look too heavy on a daily basis. This gives a light moisturising coverage.

Windle and Moodie Shine and Smoothing Hair oil – it smells delicious and leaves my hair feeling nourished and silky soft.

Garnier Ultimate Oil Beauty Scrub – I love the texture of this body scrub, it leaves your skin smooth, moisturised and smells fab.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW

House Music, reggae, 80’s music, 90’s, acoustic guitar, disco, nu disco. Loads of different music genres in fact.

I Love Sushi (when it’s done properly in a restaurant – none of that pre-packaged stuff on the shelf in the Supermarket!)

Also a huge fan of American Junk food, obviously not on a daily basis – but I do love it as a treat!

Art wise, I’m really into retro skateboard designs, think Santa Cruz.

michellehumphrey2

DO YOU HAVE ANY ANIMALS?

Not yet.

WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP AND ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?

I grew up in the 90’s, there was quite a broad range of music I used to listen to. I was well into dance tracks like Robin S – Show me love and Haddaway – What is Love etc.

Then there was the Garage music thing that I got quite into as well.

And I was also into RnB and rap music. Puff Daddy, Aaliyah, Notorious BIG, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg etc.

If I’m on a job and someone puts a 90’s mix on it immediately lifts my spirits and takes me back! Still love it!

IF YOU WERE PUT ON A DESERT ISLAND AND COULD CHOOSE ONLY 10 SONGS TO HAVE ON AN IPOD WHAT WOULD THEY BE? ****PLEASE NOTE : ONE WHOLE ALBUM CAN BE  CLASSED AS 1 SONG, SO YOU CAN CHOOSE 10 ALBUMS IF YOU PREFER *** ( EXPLAIN IF YOU WANT TO, WHY YOU CHOSE THEM )

Notorious BIG – Juicy

Kenny Dope and the Bucketheads – These Sounds Fall Into My Mind (90’s memories)

The Cure – Greatest Hits album

Vincent Montana jr. – It Looks Like Love (dim’s compiled edit) – I love this disco track

Serani – No games – Great Reggae vibes

Bill Withers – who is he

Beanie Man – Girls Dem Sugar

Donna Summer – I Feel Love

Poolside – Chillin out

Shaba Ranks – Mr Loverman

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE.?

Probably somewhere tropical and hot all year round. London is pretty cold and grey at the moment, I love the sun and heat.

MASTERMIND IS AN ICONIC BRITSH TV QUIZ SHOW WHERE THE CONTESTANTS ARE QUESTIONED FOR 2 MINUTES ON THEIR CHOSEN SPECIALISED SUBJECT.  WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SPECIALISED SUBJECT IF YOU WERE A CONTESTANT?

Probably would have to be nails!

michellehumphrey3

WHO OR WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?

Your hilarious videos on Instagram……… LOL
IN A FILM OF YOUR LIFE, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY YOU?

Probably Cameron Diaz, she’s such an amazing actress, love her!

WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNERS THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?

I love House of Holland, Kenzo and Markus Lupfer.

YOU’RE PACKING TO GO ON A TRIP FOR 2 WEEKS AND CAN TAKE 5 FILMS ON ITUNES OR DVD’S WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD THEY BE, AND IF YOU WANT, SAY WHY YOU LOVE THEM? ( IT CAN BE SOMETHING YOU HAVEN’T SEE YET)

Dumb and Dumber – I love this movie, a classic that makes me laugh so much!

Little Miss Sunshine – I love Indie films and this one is such a feel good film.

Will Ferell Movie – Get Hard, not released until the summer though.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas – One of my all time favourite films.

Napoleon Dynamite – I love the dance scene, such a classic!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESSERT?

Anything chocolately and New York Cheesecake is up there too.

DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD.

Fun.

WHAT ANIMAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE?

A house cat. They lounge around, sleep all day and get fed – Perfect!

WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL FOUR GUESTS TO A DINNER PARTY AT YOUR HOUSE ( THEY CAN BE DEAD OR ALIVE)

Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, Jim Carey and Ben Stiller = should be a funny night with those guys!

michellehumphrey4

DO YOU HAVE A GUILTY PLEASURE, IF SO WHAT IS IT?

Crisps!! I love crisps!!!

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?

Either Costa Rica or Hawaii.

NAME ANY TYPE OF PRODUCT IE: FOOD, TOYS, CLOTHES, OR COSMETICS ETC THAT YOU ONCE LOVED BUT IS NOW EITHER DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND

Technics 1210’s got discontinued, this broke my heart! You can get seconds hand ones now though, but the value has shot up.

A Huge thank you to Michelle and if you want to follow her on Instagram, her name is @NailsbyMH

angela-lindvall-1Angela Lindvall is the 2nd of our Supermodel 31 countdown….

She joins the elite list of only 31 models who have appeared on all four of the major Vogue covers throughout their careers-  American, British, French and Italian.

We’re going in alphabetical order, last month being the first one with Amber Valletta.

Born in Oklahoma, the MidWest Angela was raised in Lee Summits Missouri. She has appeared in campaigns for Fendi, Calvin Klein, Dior, Jil Sander, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Chanel, Prada, Jimmy Choo, Chloe, DKNY to name a few.

Angela epitomised the cool looking all American girl for the noughties.with her blonde hair and light freckles she oozed coolness but in a way that everyone could understand.

She has appeared in several films, including Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005 and Small Apartments in 2010. She was the host of the fashion reality series Project Runway: All Stars, an extension of the popular series Project Runway.

Angela has two sons, Dakota and Sebastian.

So i hope you enjoy these pics of Angela, starting with some of her most well known Vogue covers,  plus some images I’ve worked on her with, including one of her Vogue covers, which we shot on an amazing trip to Cuba.

#TBT – EDITORIAL ARCHIVE – ALLURE MAGAZINE SEPT 2006 WITH NATASHA POLY

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

0 - Tom Munro - Allure, Make Up Karim Rahman, Fashion Editor Paul Cavaco, Model Natasha Poly, Sept 2006 copyToday I’m taking you back to September 2006.

In 2004 a new model from Russia emerged on the scene, Natalya Sergeyevna Polevshchikova

Shortened to Natasha Poly within 2004 she was teetering on the edge of Supermodel Stardom, after walking in 54 fashion shows in New York, Milan and Paris,  plus gracing the the cover of French Vogue  twice consecutively.

Cut to 2006 and Natasha had become a model superstar. I’d worked with her on quite a few occasions and I was booked to do a beauty shoot with her for Allure Magazine, the US Beauty heavy publication.

The phototgrapher was British born Tom Munro who was based in New York at the time and the fashion editor was the legendary Paul Cavaco.

We drove to a house upstate somewhere and seeing as it was a beauty shoot, it was all about the make-up which was executed by the amazing French make-up artist Karin Rahman. The shoot was all bout the new colours of the A/W 2006 season.

I hope you enjoy these images from the magazine. I never tire of looking at pictures of Natasha.
