Q&A WITH ELLE STYLE AWARDS 2015, MODEL OF THE YEAR, ROSIE HUNTINGTON WHITELEY

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Horst Diekgerdes, Turkish Vogue - Fashion Editor Konca Aykan - Make Up Stevie Huyn Model Rosie Huntington Whitely - August 2014 - 001

MY VOGUE COVER WITH ROSIE FROM 2014

She’s been described as one of the most beautiful women in the world and is dating one of the hottest British actors living in Hollywood right now ( Jason Statham) and two days ago she just won the Elle Style Awards,  Model Of The Year 2015.

She is none other than top British model and occasional Hollywood actress Rosie Huntington Whiteley.

I first met Rosie in 2005 when she was 17 in London and we worked together on a shoot. She was lovely and very sweet and I liked her a lot. She’s super bright and smart and you know when you know somebody’s going to go far when you meet them!!

In early 2006, she was tipped to be “the next Kate Moss”, picked as one of five international models to look out for in the following 12 months. She was signed that year to American lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret.

The next time I saw her was in New York about 6 months later and she’d been booked on her first ever Victoria’s Secret shoot. I was doing the hair and had been working for them regularly with the gorgeous Gisele. Rosie was very nervous about the shoot but very cleverly asked me what would be expected from her on this VS shoot. How should she model, what would they be looking for. I gave her a few tips of what I knew and she ran with it. Now that’s a clever woman, right there.

Suddenly in 2008,  she was cast by Burberry Chief Creative Director, Christopher Bailey to replace British model of the moment Agyness Deyn  for Burberry’s A/W campaign with actor Sam Riley. With that she got her first British Vogue cover on the November 2008 issue, alongside Eden Clark and Jourdan Dunn  in a feature celebrating British models. In 2009 Rosie  received an Elle Style Award for “Model of the Year”. She also starred in a short film for British lingerie company Agent Provocateur playing a woman whose boyfriend forgets Valentines Day.

In February 2010, Rosie officially became a Victoria’s Secret Angel modelling for their show in New York City.

ROSIE WALKING FOR VS

In 2010, she posed nude for the Pirelli Calendar, photographed by Terry Richardson and she also walked the runway for Prada in Milan and Giles Deacon in Paris.

In May 2010, it was announced that Rosie would become the new female lead in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, replacing Megan Fox.  She had previously worked with the film’s director,Michael Bay, on a Victoria’s Secret commercial. The film was released on June 29th 2011 to mixed reviews. Rosie has since stated that she doesn’t want to pursue acting as a career although she will be making an appearance in the new MadMax Film this year.

In July 2011 she was unveiled as the face of Burberry’s newest fragrance, Burberry Body, and Rosie now has her own line with British retailer Marks and Spencer, as well as a new fragrance.

I still have the pleasure of working with Rosie sometimes and as she goes from strength to strength, all I can say is “Go Team Rosie” .  I feel very honoured that this busy young lady found the time to answer my Q&A for me, so I hope you enjoy this little insight into her world.

ALSO I’VE MADE MY OWN 2 SPECIAL AWARDS FOR LAST NIGHT. THE MOODIE FOR THE BEST AND THE WORST  HAIR AT THE OSCARS THIS YEAR

Compared to previous years I thought the hair this year was pretty tame. With most people opting for the more classic looks ( probably not wanting to be voted the worst by all the press)

BEST HAIR:

WINNER: JULIANNE MOORE – Chic, sleek chignon, with a side swept fringe – An absolute classic look for what can only be described as one very classy, talented lady.  ( BTW – SIENNA MILLER CAME A VERY CLOSE 2ND with her softer twisted up-do, created by my dear friend Earl Simms)

And for men- Got to be Eddie Redmayne for his perfectly coiffed unruly schoolboy haircut

WORST HAIR:

WINNER: Anna Farris – Too many looks going on in one style for my liking, that actually could have looked great,  but went so wrong. Side parting, smoothed fringe and soft waves through the mid lengths and ends ??? I’m afraid it’s a no from me.

THE_MOODIE_AWARDS thrice

ITS THE OSCARS TONIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD, SUPPOSEDLY THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS PRIZE TO WIN IN THE FILM WORLD AND AS AN EARLY CELEBRATION I’M GIVING OUT A SPECIAL “MOODIE AWARD” THIS MORNING.

This category is a new one and its for ” The Worst Hairstyle Ever Worn at the Oscars 1986-2014″

We’ve scoured the internet here at Moodie HQ to bring you the worst ones we could find.

There’s Cher’s Crazy head piece, Helena Bonham Carters birds nest up do, Kate Hudson’s un brushed ringlets, and even the unruly uncut locks of  a man named Claudio Miranda who won an Oscar for the director of photography for Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi film.

So below is all the nominees within a collage and then underneath is the winner with their hairstyle, standing alone.

Ladies and Gentlemen the nominees are:

Cher, Helena Bonham Carter, Lisa Rinna,  Liza Minelli, Marcia Gay Harden, Sandra Bullock, Jodie Foster, Melissa McCarthy, Kate Hudson, J-Lo, Claudio Miranda, Bai Ling, Eva Green.

Lets take a look at the nominees

Screen Shot 2015-02-07 at 21.19.37

And the Moodie for Worst Hair at the Oscars 1986-2014 is…………………. Drum Roll please……………

J-LO in  2002.

She won on the fact that not only was it a bad hairdo that looked a tad unfinished but the supposed style also closely resembled a Cavalier King Charles Spaniels’ Ears, which quite frankly looks cuter on them than on her, -plus theirs is actually their ears………

Sorry Jennifer, but congrats on the award. Hahahaha

Q&A- LONDON FASHION WEEK SPECIAL WITH MATILDA LOWTHER.

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Matilda, Me and Malaika

Its fashion week again,  here in London and I have a very special Q&A for you. Its none other than the new hot British model of the moment the quintessential English Rose, Matilda Lowther.

3 fashion seasons ago, Matilda was chosen by Christopher Bailey to open the Burberry Prorsum  show in London. She hales from the Lake District, and is a member of the family who own the Lowther estate in Penrith, with her Aunt Camilla also being one of the biggest, most established Photographic agents in London- a lucky person to have on board when you’re literally about to be catapulted into the fashion limelight.

Having started out in school pursuing a career as a possible high jumper; she was a member of the british Junior Athletics team no less, this was her first proper show season and first proper fashion show. To open a big designers show is a huge thing.  It;’s like you’re spearheading the whole thing for them. You are letting the audience know first hand, what that collection is going to be about for the following season. Its a big ask, and I distinctly remember Matilda being so nervous beforehand. She could barely speak as I kept checking her hair over in the line up minutes before the show started. I kept telling her to take deep breaths and to try to enjoy the moment. It was like she was in a zone, acknowledging what I was saying but finding it hard to stay calm.

Fast forward one year later and she’s a bundle of confidence with 2 seasons under her belt, Vogue editorials in her portfolio,  Burberry campaigns, enrolled into art college to fill in the spare time between modelling, plus she’s bagged one of the hottest young British boys in town as her new boyfriend, Jamie Campbell Bower, who is a rising actor having been in Sweeney Todd, Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga and Rock N Roller. He’s also lead singer of the band The Darling Buds  and is a part time model, having starred in the Burberry Prorsum S/S 14  campaign shot by Mario Testino, which is where they actually met and fell for each other.

They’ve become quite the new mini celebrity couple, and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer girl. Matilda has always been polite, pleasant and a joy to be around. When I asked Matilda to do this Q&A for me she was so excited that I asked her, which was lovely to see, so without further ado I’ll let her take it away, and in between are some pics of Matilda so you can see exactly what she’s been up to since her metric rise.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

As far as I can remember I wanted to be an Olympic athlete!!

YOU WERE A HIGH JUMPER AT SCHOOL ( AND A VERY GOOD ONE I HEARD) HOW COME YOU DIDN’T PURSUE ATHLETICS AS A CAREER

I have always (and will) always be a sporty chick.. I suppose the reason I didn’t pursue athletics as a career is due to how much time it took up. I had to train like mad 24/7!

HOW DID YOU BEGIN MODELLING?

I began modelling when I was scouted on a school trip with my art class…I got signed very shortly after and the rest is all a giant blur really!

IS THERE ANYBODY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?

Neil Armstrong.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I live in London with my cousin and best friend. I grew up in the North of England though, in the Lake District.

Screen Shot 2015-02-10 at 23.10.39

Matilda and her boyfriend Jamie at Wimbledon last year. They met whilst shooting the Burberry campaign together

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?

To me, London is my ideal city, but if I had to change one thing, I wish it was closer to my home in Cumbria sometimes.

DID HAVING FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY HELP TO PREPARE YOU FOR WHAT WAS TO COME, BECOMING A MODEL?

Yes of course! I’m so lucky to have some family who know a lot about the industry, mostly it meant i was more looked after and had more knowledge about it all before I began properly modelling. I had someone to talk to and get really helpful advice from if i ever needed it. It has been very comforting.

LIST YOUR TOP 5 FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS.

1) – Garnier BB cream

2) – Eve Lom Dyna spot cream

3) – WINDLE AND MOODIE hair spray!!

4) – My Burberry perfume

5) – Jo Malone body soap.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW ( MUSIC, FASHION , ART,  FOOD )

There’s so much I can’t write it all down. But here’s a few current obsessions of mine..Music wise I’m loving Lower Than Atlantis’s new album. I love McQ clothing at the moment. My favourite artist right now is Jenny Saville. And food…mashed avocado on toast with scrambled eggs.

Screen Shot 2015-02-10 at 23.42.03

MATILDA AT WORK

 DO YOU HAVE ANY ANIMALS?

Yes, I have a horse called Rusheen. And we have 3 dogs at home too, chickens, Bees, goldfish…we have a very eclectic group of pets.

WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP AND ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?

Avril Lavinge……

WHERE YOU GREW UP WAS TOTAL COUNTRYSIDE, WAS IT A SHOCK MOVING TO LONDON?

Yes it was such a shock! When i first moved to London I remember wanting to go to parks just to feel the open space..I’m a massive country bumpkin at heart.

IF YOU WERE PUT ON A DESERT ISLAND AND COULD CHOOSE ONLY 10 SONGS TO HAVE ON AN IPOD WHAT WOULD THEY BE? ******PLEASE NOTE : A WHOLE ALBUM CAN BE CLASSED AS 1 SONG*** ( EXPLAIN IF YOU WANT TO, WHY YOU CHOSE THEM )

I’d  have mix of some calming songs, some classics, and music i love.

– James Bay- Hold back the river

– Leonard Cohen- Suzanne

– The Police- Message in a bottle (lol)

– Thurston Harris- Little Bitty Pretty One

– Toots and The Maytals- Pressure Drop

– Toploader- Dancing in The Moonlight

– Frank Sinatra- Come Fly with me

– A Great Big World- Already Home

– Angus and Julia Stone- Big Jet Plane

– The Beach Boys- Good Vibrations

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE.?

Probably in Lamu, which is a small island off the East coast of Africa. I’d love to live there, set up a small business and live by the beach.

MASTERMIND IS AN ICONIC BRITSH TV QUIZ SHOW WHERE THE CONTESTANTS ARE QUESTIONED FOR 2 MINUTES ON THEIR CHOSEN SPECIALISED SUBJECT. WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SPECIALISED SUBJECT IF YOU WERE A CONTESTANT?

Probably on something really random, like wild swimming in the British Isles.

WHO OR WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?

My youngest brother Flynn, he’s 9 and is at that amazing age where he comes out with the most extraordinary yet intelligent questions, that you’d least expect. My horse also does make me laugh, he can be really clumsy and trip over his own feet.

Screen Shot 2014-09-16 at 15.08.40IMG_2881

Matilda and Me moments: with W&M products in London and with Jamie, Cara Delevingne and Malaika Firth in Shanghai.

IN A FILM OF YOUR LIFE, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY YOU?

In terms of current actresses? Zoey Deschanel I think would play quite a good me, she’s got that slightly dorky thing going on. Like me, she also laughs at herself a lot.

WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNERS THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?

McQ, Celine, Zadig and Voltaire.

YOU’VE RECENTLY ENROLLED IN ARTS COLLEGE, WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING AND WERE YOU INTERESTED IN IT BEFORE OR IS IT COMPLETELY A NEW VENTURE FOR YOU?

I’m studying fine art and sculpture at City and Guilds of London Art school in Kennington. Art is something i’ve always loved, although it was really being involved in the fashion industry that pushed me to apply. I saw all these incredible designers creating their own art in the form of clothes and I was like “hang on, I love this too”.

YOU’RE PACKING TO GO ON A TRIP FOR 2 WEEKS AND CAN TAKE 5 FILMS ON ITUNES OR DVD’S WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD THEY BE, AND IF YOU WANT, SAY WHY YOU LOVE THEM? ( IT CAN BE SOMETHING YOU HAVEN’T SEE YET)

– Pride and Prejudice

– Avatar

– Mary Poppins

– Shutter Island

– Superbad

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESSERT?

Sticky Toffee pudding, obviously!!

DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD.

Fidgety.

230177-800w217301-800w

Matilda for Burberry.

WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL FOUR GUESTS TO A DINNER PARTY AT YOUR HOUSE ( THEY CAN BE DEAD OR ALIVE)

Henri Matisse, Franklin Roosevelt, Jack Black, Jesse Owens.

DO YOU HAVE A GUILTY PLEASURE, IF SO WHAT IS IT?

Peanut butter, jam and banana on toast. Oh also, not necessarily a guilty pleasure, but i love buying cards, really cool random ones from wherever I travel.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?

I just got back from LA and next I’m heading HOME to the lakedistrict. Hurrah.

NAME ANY TYPE OF PRODUCT IE: FOOD, TOYS, CLOTHES, OR COSMETICS ETC THAT YOU ONCE LOVED BUT IS NOW EITHER DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND
