STREET HAIR ELITE : THE COLOUR BRIGHTS

HAIR COLOUR IS STILL STRONG FOR THIS COMING SEASON.

There was a lot of pastels and washed out colours last year which were beautiful but it’s time to go bold…… Now we’ve become less scared about hair colours again, its great to see people on the street really going for it. Here’s some people I’ve seen recently.

1 girl with rainbow hair, and another with lime green and a touch of orange just to break it up a bit. I’ve also added an image from a shoot i did recently for Interview Germany magazine where I created a rainbow coloured wig, so it’s all completely on trend.

The shoot was by Pawel Pysz, styled by Tara St Hill with make-up by Mathias VAn Hooff,

Come on people, let’s brighten things up whilst it’s still cold out there.

EDITORIAL ARCHIVE – VOGUE GB WITH KATE MOSS BY JUERGEN TELLER, MAY 2003

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Jurgen Teller - British Vogue, Make Up Lisa Butler, Fashion Editors Anita Pallenberg & Bay Garnett, Model Kate Moss - May 2003 - 1

Today from my archive, I’ve dug out a shoot that looking back I’ve realised has actually become quite iconic, not only because the pictures have reached iconic status but also because of all the icons that worked on this shoot ( me excluded btw) The shoot stars the great British Icon Model, Kate Moss who needs absolutely no introduction whatsoever so I’m going to leave that.

Then the photographer is the amazing German born, London living  Juergen Teller, who has kind of become an honorary Brit. With his prolific work for Marc Jacobs, Celine, Vivienne Westwood, Helmut Lang, Yves Saint Laurent and Hugo Boss.  Juergen first gained wider recognition in 1996 with his front cover of Suddeutsche Zeitung Magazine featuring a nude Kristen McMenamy with the word ‘Versace’ drawn in a heart across her chest.

Then to add Icon on top of Icon, the stylists on this shoot were a duo consisiting of none other than 60’s star Anita Pallenberg and her friend Bay Garnett. It was Bay’s first collaboration for British Vogue.

The make-up artist is none other than the legend that is Lisa Butler.

We spent 2 days going around London, where we went to Kate’s house, Regent’s Park Zoo, a Boat House in Chelsea Harbour and Anita’s house in Chelsea also. Juergen loved the idea of Kate hanging out all over London in Anita and Bay’s Vintage clothes. It was a crazy 2 days but fun and we met some amazing people along the way including The De La Falaise family, Gael Garcia Bernal and  an extremely long snake.

All in a days work as they say…………..

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY – ALAN PARTRIDGE……….

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

black_1024

Steve Coogan’s Comedy invention Alan Partridge soon became a cult figure amongst the British public.

A parody of both sports commentators and chat show presenters, among others, the character has appeared in two radio series, three television series and numerous TV and radio specials, including appearances on BBC’s Comic Relief,  which have followed the rise and fall of his fictional career. A feature-length film featuring the character, Alan Partridge, Alpha Papa, was released in August 2013.

Alan is depicted as being a sexually repressed and prudish man, uncomfortable and awkward with overt (or even subtle) displays of sexual or romantic feelings, or what he views as being “perverted” sexual practices. He is particularly disconcerted by homosexuality, and despite describing himself as “homosceptic” at one point appears to entertain homoerotic or bisexual tendencies. This became the subject of numerous running jokes in I’m Alan Partridge, in particular his numerous efforts to deny his interest in Bangkok ‘Lady Boys ” (whom he describes as “fascinating creatures” whilst insisting that he is merely confused by them and not attracted to them) and a recurrent joke in which he will daydream about performing an erotic in a peephole Pringle jumper and a vulcanised rubber thong for a selection of men (usually those who can help further his career in some way, such as BBC Chief of Programming Tony Hayers). Alan spent 182 days living at the Linton Travel Tavern (roughly equidistant between London and Norwich); in his room was a chest of drawers, the contents of the top drawer he took great pains to keep secret.

This particular sketch I’ve chosen takes place at his friend Dan’s House to look at kitchen designs, only to find that Dan and his wife are “sex people” and he ends up in a very awkward situation.

NEW YEAR, NEW WAVE…… BACK TO THE LATE 70’S AND EARLY 80’S

It’s a New Year and I’ve been listening to British 80’s New Wave ( Well, 99% British to be exact- 1 band are from Canada) . It’s actually quite amazing that I forgot how good some tracks sound. So what I’ve done is compile 25 of my favourite New Wave tracks from 1979 to 1983 ( no earlier and no later) and made a playlist for you all,  plus I’ve uploaded all 25 videos of each track. Some of the songs I couldn’t find an official video for, so I’ve found live performances or TV performances of the songs.

Not only do I hope you enjoy the songs but also some of the crazy, mental fashion, hair and make-up we all used to wear back then. Have fun watching and listening.

 WE’VE WON… I’M SO EXCITED…… AND I JUST CANT HIDE IT!!

I’m  super  proud to announce that Windle and Moodie’s Volcanic Ash Wax has won an award at the Wallpaper Magazine Design Awards for 2015.

Choppy short hair UK

On the evening of January 15th,  Wallpaper Magazine announced the winners of their Design Awards for 2015, and we were over the moon to find out that our Volcanic Ash Wax won the “Best Grooming Essentials Category” (Editors Choice)

Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 04.57.33

The idea of our Volcanic Ash Wax came about when Paul Windle was in Iceland in 2010, when the volcano erupted and he couldn’t help but notice the change in texture of the peoples hair he was hanging out with. On returning to London, Paul discussed with me about putting the ash into a hair product and so we began to  figure out how they could do it with the help of one of the chemists we were working with to develop the Windle and Moodie range.

The Volcanic Ash Wax was the first product to come to life and here we are 6 months after the launch, winning an award.

Obviously we’re all super excited at W&M HQ  and over the moon about it, so I wanted to share it with you.

We are currently looking into how we could use the volcanic ash in other products, so watch this space, but meanwhile if you want to try the wax you can buy it by clicking HERE

As the Chinese celebrate the Lunar New Year, I just wanted to share with you another Romeo Beckham for Burberry moment with you that I worked on.

Son of David and Victoria, little Romeo was the star of the Burberry Festive campaign which I worked on. Whilst we were shooting that campaign, a special Golden Trench coat was brought in that had been made especially to fit Romeo, so we could shoot some images for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Anyway, here they are.

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY – DAVE ALLEN ON SUPERMARKETS!

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

David Tynan O’Mahony, better known as Dave Allen, was an Irish comedian who has been featured on Moods Comedy Monday before, but he has too much material out there to be featured just the once!

At the height of his career during the late 80’s and 90’s, he was Britain’s most controversial comedian, particularly enjoying to talk about political hypocrisy and his disregard for religious authority. He would scour the daily newspapers for hours a day searching for new material.

But when he wasn’t making light of such serious subjects, he would talk about much smaller, every day aspects of life, such as supermarkets!

Enjoy!

As my first ever advertising campaign, I had no idea the colossal impact it would have on my career so early on. Oh well, you live and learn!!

MODELS ‘N’ STUFF – SHALOM HARLOW MODEL

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

shalom-harlow

Shalom (meaning “peace be with you” in Hebrew) Harlow was one of the 1990’s supermodels. She grew up in Toronto, Canada in a very bohemian environment. They had no TV or magazines in their household. She took up ballet at a young age and became classically trained.  Shalom decided that a move into Tap dancing would probably suit her rebellious personality more as she enjoyed the noises she could make.

Whilst at a Cure concert in Toronto she was discovered by a modelling scout and the rest is history as the saying goes. Moving to Paris she soon became a hit with prestigious designers such as; Chanel, Valentino, Alberta Ferretti, YSL, Donna Karen, Versace, Dolce and Gabanna, Marc Jacobs and John Galliano.  She’s been quoted as saying that in those times there was a feeling of one upping each other on the runway, a kind of healthy competition amongst the other supermodels, which consisted of Amber, Kate, Kirsten McMenamy, Carolyn Murphy,  Linda, Christy, Naomi, et al. She soon became the face of  Versace, Prada, Ralph Lauren  and the face of Chanel fragrances, as well as being a hit on the couture runway because of her height, stature and poise.  Sahlom became best friends with fellow supermodel Amber Valetta, and they went on to co-host MTV’s – House of Style. Shalom and Amber were often seen sharing editorials and campaigns.

One of Shalom’s crowning runway moments was when she appeared in the Alexander McQueen S/S 1999 show that was inspired by the arts and crafts movement, where Shalom was painted by two industrial robots. It is often said that the inspiration behind the collection was the dying swan, but in actual fact the inspiration came from an installation by the German visual artist Rebecca Horn of two machine guns firing paint at each other. ( See the video below)

Below are some collages we’ve created of Shalom’s amazing work over the years and some interview footage of her.  Enjoy!!

MY STORY SO FAR (AND THE HAIRCUTS!) | The LATE 90’S| SPIKEY HAIR

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

31 Neil Lupfer

In the Late 90’s I discovered Hair Relaxer. My lovely friends at Pacific Hair Salon, an Afro Hair Specialist salon that used to be in Knightsbridge, London would carefully relax my hair for me and give the staright hair I had always desired, but thought wasn’t possible.

One thing I do know is that they would use children’s hair relaxer on my hair as it didn’t need the hardcore adult stuff.

Anyway, here’s some pics of me with the spikey hair I’d always desired in about 1997.98. There’s one of me working backstage at a show, then one with my old room mate from New York, Anita Bitton, one of me with a pretend mullet and one with my friends Karl Plewka and Sue Stemp where we going to a Marc Jacobs show in New York.
