MY SOUNDTRACK TO 2014 – SIDE B!

MOODIE MIX PICMe _Soundtrack 2014 Pic

Hi EVERYONE!! HOW’S YOUR FESTIVE SEASON GOING?  AS I MENTIONED THE OTHER DAY, 2014 HAS SEEN SOME GREAT MUSIC BEING RELEASED. IT WAS DEFINITELY THE YEAR OF THE BOYS, ED SHEERAN, GEORGE EZRA, MARK RONSON, CALVIN HARRIS, ONE DIRECTION, SAM SMITH, JOHN NEWMAN AND PAULO NUTINO.

The girls had their moments too, Paloma Faith, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande all broke through in a major way this year.

So it;s the day before New Years Eve and I’ve already given you Side A of My Soundtrack to 2014 on 27th Dec. Today is the release of my Side B.  Some of the tracks you may know, some you may not, but hopefully you will want to know them by the time you’ve had a listen.

Like smell and taste , music is very personal and one person’s favourite song of the year can be another person’s worst.  Here’s hoping mine won’t enter into your ‘worst” category. There’s some new stuff and oldies that I couldn’t stop listening to,  including Le Youth, MIles Kane , Major Lazer, Gisele Bundchen ( yes the Brazilian Supermodel recorded a track and released it for charity)  and even a little James Bond Theme  to list but a few.

Have a boogie, a bop or just relax. However the mood takes you, I hope you enjoy the songs that I feel have helped to make and get me through my 2014.

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY – THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN CHRISTMAS!

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

ALL I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN BBC TV COMEDY, IS THAT IT WAS AND STILL IS MY FAVOURITE COMEDY EVER SHOWN ON TV.

The League of Gentlemen is a quartet of British Dark Comedy writer/ performers, formed in 1995 by Jeremy Dyson, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.  The TV show for which they are best known, although labelled as a sitcom was initially more sketch based linked together by their common setting: the fictional village of Royston Vasey, based on the town of Alston in Cumbria and set somewhere in the north of England. The show contains elements of horror. The first series aired on BBC Two in 1999 and follows the lives of dozens of the town’s bizarre inahabitants, played by Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith in a number of guises.

In this particular sketch from their Christmas video, we have Charlie and Stella Hull, whose marriage is falling apart, and they often have arguments through their daughter Julie, who happens to not be around.

I’ve always claimed you need to see the whole series of this bizaare comedy for it all to makes sense but I think you’ll get the jist of it pretty easily.

Happy Laughing ( or not as the case-maybe)

MOODIE MIX PIC

2014 HAS SEEN SOME GREAT MUSIC BEING RELEASED. IT WAS DEFINITELY THE YEAR OF THE BOYS, ED SHEERAN, GEORGE EZRA, MARK RONSON, CALVIN HARRIS, ONE DIRECTION, SAM SMITH, JOHN NEWMAN AND PAULO NUTINO.

The girls had their moments too , Paloma Faith, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, NIcki Minaj and Ariana Grande all broke through in a major way this year.

Well, now we’re approaching the end of the year, I thought I’d give you a play list of the songs that got me through 2014. Some you may know, some you may not but hopefully you will want to know them by the time you’ve had a listen.

Like smell and taste , music is very personal and one person’s favourite song of the year can be another person’s worst.  Here’s hoping mine don’t enter into your ‘worst” category. There’s some new stuff and oldies that I couldn’t stop listening to,  including Hannah Wants, John Newman, Deadmau5, Alison Moyet and Kurt Vile  to list but a few.

So here’s Part 1 ( or side A as we’ve chosen to call it – I’m thinking a 2 sided vinyl here) Side B I’ll release in a couple of days.

Have a boogie, a bop or just relax. However the mood takes you, I hope you enjoy the songs that I feel have made my year.

JUST ANOTHER CHRISTMAS MOODIE MONDAY! – CHRISTMAS MEDLEY!

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

It’s the last Monday before Christmas,  and its our last day at Moodie HQ. We’ve been listening to and our favourite Christmas songs, because let’s face it, they’re not all good.  ( One of my specific pet hates is ” Driving Home for Christmas” by Chris Rea. Sorry Chris, but the song grates on me every time I hear it, so much so that I have to turn it off if it comes on the radio in my car.)

That said, there are some that I just love, and love to have a sing along to. So to celebrate, I’ve picked my favourites and made a little Monday Moodie Medley for you.  Below is the video medley I’ve made plus all the originals for you to have a butchers at.

Merry Monday leading up to Christmas every one!!!!

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS Q&A WITH AUSTRALIAN TOP MODEL, THE LOVELY JULIA NOBIS!

Posted by | Blog | No Comments

Julia Nobis

Julis Nobis was born in Sydney in 1993. In 2009 she was discovered on the streets of Rose Bay in Sydney whilst still at school. After making a small debut at Australian Fashion Week, she exclusively debuted on the runway for Calvin Klein in New York for the Autumn/Winter 2010 collections. She then travelled to London, Milan and Paris where she walked for Prada, Louis Vuitton, Margella and Miu Miu, amongst others.

In September 2010, for the Spring/Summer 2011 shows, she walked for Alexander Wang, Burberry, Channel, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Proezna Schouler. This was the beginning of the meteoric rise for this extremely laid back beauty.

In July 2012 Julia made her first of four appearances to date on the cover of Italian Vogue, shot by Steven Meisel. The first appearance is considered any model’s pinnacle due to them only being shot by Steven Meisel. Her most recent appearance on the cover of Italian Vogue was September 2014, proving her first was no flash in the pan. Not bad from a girl who was quoted as saying modelling was just a means to an end!

Julia is currently studying a bachelor of science and applied science, with the aim of becoming an E.R doctor, and is also a 6th grade pianist and plays the guitar. Is there nothing this beautiful 21 year old can’t do!?

Have a read of Julia’s Q&A and she’ll let you know!

Take it away Julia……..

Julia Nobis Q&A

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

A lot of things. First it was a paleontologist, then a marine biologist, then a pastry chef, then a teacher, and finally a doctor.

HOW DID YOU BEGIN MODELLING?

I sort of fell into it. I was scouted quite young but finished high school before I came overseas. I was essentially dropped into the deep end, but I think it was better that way.

IS THERE ANYBODY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?

Perhaps a king or queen back in medieval times, if I could keep my personality and just be this chilled out liberal royal and change the future (well, our present)… but is actually probably just get murdered early.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

 In Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Colour 1

(Some of Julia’s editorial work above.)

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Food quality… if that includes coffee. Is it really that hard to find a decent cappuccino?

LIST YOUR TOP 5 FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS.

Umm… just oils, all oils. Moroccan oil for hair, rosehip or bio oil for body and a mix of all the above for my face. That’s only 3, but thats about all I use.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW (  MUSIC, FASHION , ART,  FOOD )

Baking. I love to bake. Cooking as well to a lesser extent, but baking is so satisfying.

Pat

(Editorial I worked on with Julia, shot by the legendary Patrick Demarchelier for British Vogue.)

SO YOU TOLD ME YOU PLAY PIANO, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING, HOW GOOD ARE YOU AND DID YOU EVER WANT TO BE A PIANIST PROFESSIONALLY? ALSO, CAN YOU PLAY THE THEME TUNE TO NEIGHBOURS, BECAUSE I CAN PLAY THE THEME TUNE TO BRITISH SOAP EASTENDERS ON PIANO……LOL ?

I plated when I was super young and then stopped after two years, I finally took it up again a little less than a year ago. I guess I can play some pretty difficult pieces but it takes me like 2 months to learn them. Just because I can play a 6th grade piece doesn’t mean I’m a 6th grade pianist. I haven’t learned Neighbours theme tune yet, but I’ll have to get on it. I can play some music from the Matrix though 😀

CAN YOU PLAY ANY OTHER INSTRUMENTS?

Guitar is actually my main instrument, but since getting the piano, and since 3 guitars of mine have broken in one way or another in the past 18 months I haven’t been playing as much as I used to.

WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP AND ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?

I grew up on classical and blues, which is pretty timeless and I still love now when it’s appropriate.

Covers

(Above is some of Julia’s great magazine covers.)

IF YOU WERE PUT ON A DESERT ISLAND AND COULD CHOOSE ONLY 10 SONGS TO HAVE ON AN IPOD WHAT WOULD THEY BE?   ***NB: 1 WHOLE ALBUM CLASSES AS 1 SONG*** ( EXPLAIN IF YOU WANT TO, WHY YOU CHOSE THEM )

Vivaldi’s four seasons- all four of them, though winter is my favourite.

Killing in the name by rage against the machine, I can only imagine I would need a good song to get angry and yell to after all that solitude

California soul, diplo remix

Say yes (instrumental) by wax tailor

Ghostwriter by rjd2

All the gorillaz albums

A recording of my little brothers singing the Thomas the Tank engine them song

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE.?

Go back to Australia.

MASTERMIND IS AN ICONIC BRITSH TV QUIZ SHOW WHERE THE CONTESTANTS ARE QUESTIONED FOR 2 MINUTES ON THEIR CHOSEN SPECIALISED SUBJECT.  WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SPECIALISED SUBJECT IF YOU WERE A CONTESTANT ON MASTERMIND?

Useless trivia.

WHO OR WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?

Pretty much everything, there’s no point in anything if you can’t laugh at it.

IN A FILM OF YOUR LIFE, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY YOU?

Cate Blanchet… everyone says we look similar and she’s an amazing actress… it could be good.

WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNERS THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?

Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang mostly.

YOU’RE PACKING TO GO ON A TRIP FOR 2 WEEKS AND CAN TAKE 5 FILMS ON ITUNES OR DVD’S WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD THEY BE, AND IF YOU WANT, SAY WHY YOU LOVE THEM? ( IT CAN BE SOMETHING YOU HAVEN’T SEE YET)

I’m really not a movie person, but if I could just take the full box sets of game of thrones (with the episodes that aren’t yet out too obviously) and Archer I would be happy.

YOU’RE STUDYING  AT THE MOMENT. WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING AND HOW LONG DO YOU HAVE LEFT? DO YOU PLAN TO GIVE UP MODELLING ONCE YOU’VE FINISHED?

I have four years of this science degree left (I’m doing it part time so it takes a while to finish). After that I’ll have another 4 years of medicine. Not sure when exactly I’ll give up modelling but I guess it’ll have to happen at some point during that.

Ad

(A few of Julia’s advertising campaigns. Including bottom middle, a Burberry Black Label campaign I worked on with Julia, shot by Jacob Sutton.)

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESSERT?

The lemon tarts I make… or shortbread biscuits… or maybe just simple choc chip cookies. I don’t know, I have a very sweet tooth so they’re all good.

DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD.

Aloof.

WHAT ANIMAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE?

Green tree frog.

Colour 2

(Some more of Julia’s amazing editorial work above.)

WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL FOUR GUESTS TO A DINNER PARTY AT YOUR HOUSE ( THEY CAN BE DEAD OR ALIVE)

Julius Caesar, Jesus, Tutankhamun and Alexander the great… though I kind of want Ghengis Khan too.

DO YOU HAVE A GUILTY PLEASURE, IF SO WHAT IS IT? ( MINE’S SHOPPING AT UNIQLO)

I don’t sing in the shower, I dance.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?

No idea just yet, I normally only find out a day or two before I leave.

NAME ANY TYPE OF PRODUCT IE: FOOD, TOYS, CLOTHES, OR COSMETICS ETC THAT YOU ONCE LOVED BUT IS NOW EITHER DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND

Most Australian foods, I always have to stock up on twisties, burger rings, picnic bars, Tim Tams and vegemite whenever I’m home
