MOODS COMEDY MONDAY – THE FAST SHOW, NIMBO CUMULUS

Posted by | Blog, Uncategorized | No Comments

WITH SUMMER NOW APPROACHING, MOODS COMEDY MONDAY TODAY FEATURES ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TV COMEDY SKETCH SHOWS, THE FAST SHOW.

This particular sketch is one they used to do regularly, making fun of a Portugese News Channel, Channel 9.

When it came to them presenting the weather, it was always about the “scorchio” everywhere, but on this occasion, a ‘nimbo cumulus” appears in the northern part of the country, causing a bit of a frenzy.

Here’s to the “scorchio” we all hope to get this coming summer!!!!

EDITORIAL ARCHIVE – CORINNE DAY, INTERVIEW, January 1996

From my editorial archive today I’m taking you back to 1996, and Interview Magazine shot by the legendary Corinne Day.

This shoot was styled by my good friend Karl Plewka, who became fashion director of Interview not longer after this shoot was published.

Corinne’s resident make-up artist at the time was Virginia Young, who did the make-up on this shoot too.

For the hair I was inspired by many things including punk and an original use of hair accessories ( or non accessories in this case) . It was all about creating graphic shapes either with hair itself or with accessories. I specifically liked the b/w picture where Tania the model’s hair looks like it’s on fire.

THINGS WE LIKE – A Website specifically for Redheads.

Posted by | Blog, Uncategorized | No Comments

image

Founded by sisters Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti www.howtobearedhead.com is a website I discovered recently when I was looking for hair accessories specifically designed for red haired girls.

 they say………..

Redhead® is empowering every redhead woman to feel confident, to look amazing and to rock their beauty. Red hair is more than a colour, it’s a lifestyle!

Adrienne and Stephanie, both natural redheads, struggled to find beauty and fashion items that catered for red haired women. Stephanie used to dye her hair blonde to fit in, but soon realised that she feels and looks better as a natural redhead. As young girls, they both had trouble finding “redhead friendly” products because most items caused their skin to irritate or break out.  They took it upon themselves to test and try all different types of products, discovering streak-free instant tan, hair products that controlled their frizzy hair, natural but fabulous bronzers, lotions that didn’t irritate their sensitive skin image

All featured products on HowtobeaRedhead.com have been tested on a redhead for a minimum of 10 days and receive the “redhead friendly” stamp of approval. Adrienne and Stephanie hope redheads can finally take a sigh of relief knowing there is a [finally] a community that provides top beauty and fashion advice for redheads that can be trusted while also empowering them to live confident lives. The redhead sisters have coined the phrase “Rock it like a Redhead” as the tag line for their blog posts and social media photos to proclaim that it’s all about rockin’ your red hair.

Here’s a selection of their hair accessories available to buy in their online shop, which of course, I ordered a bunch of ( and they delivered to the UK) and added them to my ever expanding hair kit for work.

For more redhead advice go to

or follow them on socialmedia sites, under the name HowToBeARedhead

MY STORY SO FAR (AND THE HAIRCUTS!) – Cropped Hair in Sydney.

MY STORY SO FAR- MY D&G LOOK IN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA.

In 1993, my good friend Shari got married to an Australian.

She asked me to give her away at her wedding, and so I flew to Sydney, Australia to go to her wedding, which she held at the Sydney Botanical Gardens.

I wanted to look my best so I chose to cut my hair off, and for the wedding I decided to go for a bit of a Dolce and Gabbana look.

Not having the money to buy the real mccoy, I put my look together myself, with the help of TopMan ( for the waistcoat and trousers), Emporio Armani ( white shirt), and Shelly Shoes. I thought I’d done a really good job, and Joe Public didn’t spot a thing!!

TODAY’S Q&A IS WITH TOP MODEL KARMEN PEDARU

A beautiful personal picture, Karmen sent to me to run alongside her Q&A

The top model featured today ( Currently No 4 on Models.com Rankings) is the lovely Karmen Pedaru, 23 years old, who hails from Estonia.

Karmen was discovered in 2005 at a drama theatre in Tallinn. A huge sports fan and participator, he was the goalkeeper on Estonia’s national U-19 football team for a year before she quit to pursue modelling.

It was in A/W 2008 that Karmen had her first killer show season, walking no less than 43 shows, in all the four major fashion cities. I’ve since worked with Karmen on numerous occasions, mainly at shows and a few shoots.  She’s shy and a little reserved but once you get to know her she’s a lot of fun, always smiling and giggling. She’s super professional at work and an amazing model, so much so that she’s risen to and currently standing at No 4 in Models.com rankings.

Karmen got married in 2012 to an Italian man, and has since moved homes. I’ll let her fill you in about that below.

I managed to catch up with her recently in London on an advertising shoot and asked her if she would do my Q&A for me. she gladly obliged after looking at my blog and liking it. Karmen also made a friend in my dog Buster, who took a real shine to her.

So without further ado, I give you the biggest model to come out of Estonia since Carmen Kass, the sexy, sporty, chic  Karmen Pedaru.

T’HAIR STORY – THIS MONTH IT’S KYLIE MINOGUE!!…

Posted by | Blog, Uncategorized | No Comments

image

…or more commonly known just as ‘Kylie’, first appeared on our screens in 1986 as Charlene Mitchell in the Australian TV soap Neighbours. Kylie has just released her first solo single in 2 years, Into The Blue, which is currently charting worldwide with a new album arriving shortly.  So I thought it was the perfect timing to celebrate this “pop princesses” hair charts.

After only a year on TV she moved into the music world, and has since achieved worldwide record sales of more than 70 million!! Which is close to the amount of hairstyles she’s had over the years too! We’ve collected a few of these from the 80’s up until now, for your perusal!

image

…….and for the record, below is some shots from a shoot I worked on with the lovely Kylie for The British Breast Cancer Foundation in 2010 shot by renowned photographer Mario Testino. Kylie was diagnosed with Breast cancer in 2005, and after her recovery from treatment she resumed work as normal, but has also gone on to become a huge ambassador for Cancer research/awareness plus she’s been acknowledged  for the impact she’s had on women following her public discussions about her illness. Some doctors now say there is a “Kylie effect” that encourages young women to have regular checks.

Seeing as we mentioned Kylie’s new single release,  here’s her new video for Into The Blue.

MOODS COMEDY MONDAY- ITV’S COMEDY VICIOUS, SHOPPING SKETCH

Posted by | Blog, Uncategorized | No Comments

LAST YEAR a new comedy started on ITV starring Sir Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi who play Freddie and Stuart,  a gay couple who have being together for almost 50 years. They have a love hate relationship and are surrounded by mad friends….

This sketch doesn’t actually star either of them but it has the other cast members, Frances De La Tour as Violet their sex starved friend , Marcia Warren who plays Penelope their absent minded, dotty friend and Iwan Rheon who plays Ash their handsome, straight, young neighbour who they’ve befriended. They’re shopping in a department store.

This made me laugh when I watched it because of the humourous writing.

I hope it cheers up your Monday, especially Penelope the dotty one!!
