MOODIE’S STREET HAIR ELITE

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

MOODIE’S STREET HAIR ELITE this week is some woman I spotted sitting on the train in New York on the way to see Andy Murray win the U.S open tennis tournament last year! My question being  ” Is Purple Is The New Grey?”

I was obsessed with the colour as soon as I saw it so I had to take a picture

She could quite possibly have been Andy’s good luck mascot maybe??

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

TODAY’S Q&A IS THE THIRD OF MY JANUARY SPECIALS- THE NEW BREED OF GREATS!  LONDON BASED MAKE-UP ARTIST THE SUPER SWEET PETROS PETROHILOS!!

PETROS WAS 1ST  ASSISTANT TO SUPER MAKE-UP ARTIST VAL GARLAND ( WHOSE Q&A WILL BE COMING SOON BY THE WAY!!)  FOR OVER 3 YEARS WHERE SHE  HELPED HIM PERFECT HIS CRAFT AND NURTURED HIS TALENT.

When Petros went out into the fashion world alone he did what all the other make-up artists featured this month did and quietly moved his way up the fashion ranks just letting his creative talent shine through each time. Petros’s make-up repertoire is endless. He can do super natural- ( He’s regularly booked for Burberry shoots which we work on together) or he can go completely Avant Garde ( see the images I’ve posted here which he shot with Emma Summerton.

He works with some of the great photographers now, Nick Knight, Jem Mitchell, Lachlan Bailey, Patrick Demarchelier to name a few and his gentle greek personality is another bonus that Petros brings to the shoot. He is unassuming, has a great sense of humour but remains professional at all times. I love to see his name on a call sheet as I know working with him will make for a fun day.

So doing it for the Greeks,  i give you Petros Petrohilos!!!! Take it away P.

Lisa Niven from Vogue.co.uk has written an interesting piece about whether women’s haircuts should cost more than men’s after a new ruling trying to be passed by Denmark’s rule of equal treatment.

I contributed some quotes to this piece, have a read by clicking HERE.

MY STORY SO FAR……. AND THE HAIRCUTS

MY STORY SO FAR……. AND THE HAIRCUTS

When I was 17 in Birmingham, I was offered a job, continuing my apprenticeship at the coolest salon in the city at the time. It was called the Rizzo Group, owned by Antonio, Stuart and Tracey.  It was THE place to go if you wanted the coolest haircut on the planet!!  I had a friend who worked there who had recommended me for the job. I went for an interview and got the job as Stuart’s assistant, or junior as we were called then.

This was where I finished off my apprenticeship and eventually progressed to become a stylist.

Fellow Brummy’s and friends, editor of Love magazine/uber stylist Katie Grand and accomplished photographer Liz Collins, who were 14 years of age at the time were hair models for us. They were even cool back then!!

Stuart who I was training under had the best hair. It was a blonde curly bob. I loved his hair and having similar hair myself, I began to grow mine into a Bob too.

Not just content with having a dark curly Bob, Stuart decided I needed thick blonde  hi-lights to exaggerate the curls, exactly like his. ( He nicknamed them, “Wormy Hi-lights”) So for the first time in my life my hair was hi-lighted blonde. I remember it well, they used foils and  hi-lift tint with a scoop of bleach powder in it to boost the lighteniing process.

This picture is one I had taken in a photo booth at New Street Station the evening of the hi-lighting session… Unfortunately the picture was in black and white so it didn’t show off the blonde that well, but I loved it none the less and its one of the only pictures I have of me with blond (ish) hair. I did have more hi-lights put in over a period of a few months but sadly this is the only memory I have of it as an image.

I loved my hair like this. I used to get so many comments about it. I just remember it taking so long to get it to actually look good- a ton of product and diffuse drying.

The things we did and do for fashion heh !!!!

On today’s Q&A, Romy Soleimani

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

On today’s Q&A I’m featuring the second Make-up artist of this month that i’ve called “The NEW BREED OF GREATS”. Those people who have risen up through the fashion ranks to achieve success in their own right.

Romy Soleimani was assistant to the great Linda Cantello. On leaving Linda, Romy ventured out into the big wide world of fashion with her tiny frame and lovely comedic personality, she was first approached to work on a shoot with Steven Klein.

Romy has gone on to work for many of the Vogues, as well as Elle US and Allure, to name just a few. She also works on fashion shows and advertising campaigns with Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier, Yelena Yemchuk and Norman Jean Roy included on her rosta of photographers. Her trademark is gorgeous, glowing skin, and she is also known for introducing unexpected elements of colour.

We first worked together on a French Vogue shoot in Guatamala with photographer Corinne Day and model Liya Kibede. It was an amazing, fun trip and i distinctly remember Romy, very kindly looking after me on the last night of the shoot as I got sick.

Romy resides in New York with her husband. She divides her time as a m-up artist, a Mama, and a member of the Beauty.com team as Beauty Director-at-Large, where she shares tutorials, trends and behind-the-scenes beauty secrets on their blog.

Enjoy this mini insight into Romy’s world……...
