Todays Q&A is with Brazilian Model Sensation Jeisa Chiminazzo….

Jeisa Chiminazzo ( what a fantastic name) was born in Brazil in 1985 to parents Ernani and Ivone of Italian and German descent. She grew up in Mucum, Rio, Brasil and has two sisters. She was discovered in 1998 at the age of 13 by a Brazilian actor who recommended her to a model agency and not long after moved to New York where she signed with IMG Models. At this time there was a big influx of Brazilian models making a name for themselves including Gisele and Alessandra Ambrosia. Jeisa was one of the few other Brazilian girls of that time to have the same impact on the fashion industry as the ones I just mentioned.

In 2005 she appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris, shot by Mario Testino and has since gone on to appear on the cover of 9 other Vogue publications.

Jeisa is widely considered one of the most successful runway models (with good reason!) and has walked for the likes of Prada, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Fendi & Lanvin to name but a few!

I don’t exactly remember the first time I worked with Jeisa but we’ve been on numerous shoots together over the last ten years or so for various publications and advertising campaigns and I’ve dressed her hair for enough fashion shows to last a lifetime.

Having now bowed out of doing the shows Jeisa is now fast becoming more of a celebrity as well as a model and i recently worked with her in NY for an Ad campaign. It was so great to see her as it had been a while and also to see how she’s now become a beautiful woman both inside and out.

One of Jeisa’s interests that we both share is her love for tennis, so when I see her we can chat for hours about the players, the equipment and the tournaments and maybe one day we will have a hit with each other, although I can’t help feeling she’s going to be a much better player than myself. Well if we do end up playing I’ll give you a little report, but first and foremost we need to be in the same country, which could prove to be a little difficult with our schedules!!!!

Any old how- enjoy this little pry into Jeisa’s life and I want to thank this lovely woman for taking the time to answer the questions for us.

Take it away Jeisa………

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

I always wanted to be an architect. My father owns a furniture factory in the south of Brazil and I used to go to meetings with him and the architects that he worked with and I was always amazed with them.

HOW DID YOU END UP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW?

I’m a very dreamy girl, I always dreamed very big! When I was 12 I did a modelling course and there I met my Brazilian agent at 13. I moved to Sao Paulo and a few months later I came to New York.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?

Audrey Hepburn! She’s my favourite, she was so beautiful and humane. She helped so many causes throughout her life, and still now her beauty is timeless.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I live in Manhattan and I love it!

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Definitely the noise.

WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW? ( MUSIC, FASHION , ART,  FOOD)

I love food! And I just found out that that I’m not allergic to shellfish anymore so I’ve been eating oysters non stop!  I love art as well and probably Anish Kapor is one of my favourite artists right now.

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?

London!!!

WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP – ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?

The Cure! And still my favourite.

WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?

I like different designers but right now I’m wearing a lot of Balmain, it’s rock and roll, but I love Lanvin and McQueen too.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?

Leaving in a few days to London then Paris, as a model you never stop traveling!

ONCE AGAIN,  A GIANT THANKYOU TO JEISA

Its school photo time and it was also my birthday…

Its school photo time and it was also my birthday….  ♫ yo, yo, its my birthday, go party like it’s my  birthday ♫, ………  and my birthday present that year was a Kodak 110 cartridge, pocket Camera- remember those?  Well there it is in its full glory in my hand on my 15th birthday ( about 4 years ago… LOL ) I seem to remember it being my first ever camera.

So here I am in my school uniform, and I’d realised I actually had naturally curly hair, that I wasn’t aware of before ( see previous “My Story So Far” ) Its 1982 and the New Romantic, New Wave movement was in full swing. I distinctly remember at this stage, I was trying to grow my hair longer to get it into a wedge ( think Phil Oakey, Human League).

Photobucket Photobucket

The Lovely Phil Oakey with his asymmetric wedge haircuts.

This was proving to be quite difficult though due to me having to grow my hair twice as long as I needed in order for it to be the right length ( with absolutely no thanks to my curls). I’d also stopped going to the barbers with my Dad, and begun to go to a proper hair salon in order to get a haircut that I wanted instead of the standard short back and sides. My other battle was how to get my natural spiral curls straight! A new product called gel was suddenly available for sale in Boots, called Country Born. It was in a glass pot and the gel was green in colour ( I’ve desperately searched for a picture of this online but to no avail). I slathered my hair in this gel, going through numerous pots in a month, and would stretch my hair as straight as possible, or should I say burnt it straight. Unfortunately, humidity and rain were my worst enemies and the slightest drop of moisture would start to revert my hair back to its former state.

Anyway, as you can see,  I hadn’t completely won the battle of getting longer hair, nor perfected the art of straightening out my curls but i had mastered the growing of what was affectionately known as the “bum fluff” on my top lip.

Oh how we loved the 80’s !!!!

YADIM CARRENZA, simply known as Yadim to the fashionistas

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

YADIM CARRENZA, simply known as Yadim to the fashionistas, is a Mexican-American make-up artist born in San Diego, California. Yadim started out as a sales assistant for Mac Cosmetics, soon joining the brand’s professional make-up team to work on fashion shows.

When he moved to New York he became assistant to Make-up maven Pat McGrath ( no introduction needed there) for almost 5 years, before going it alone in 2011.

Yadim instantly joined the Tim Howard Management Agency ( the same agent as myself in NYC) and has swiftly gone on to work with some of the brightest names in fashion, Lachlan Bailey, Dan Jackson, Sharif Hamza, Patrick Demarchelier to name a few. He describes how he does make up as making it a  ”bit pretty, to then make it a bit strange” and has no qualms about taking this concept to the extreme.

In January 2012 Yadim was named as the new International Make-up Designer for Dior  when at the same time he was interviewed for the upcoming April 2012 issue of Vogue Paris, where he appeared as the one of the top four future hair and make-up people in the issue.

I was introduced to Yadim only last year after he joined Tim Howard but have been lucky enough to have now worked with him on a few editorial and advertising shoots and one of the most refreshing things about him is his immense enthusiasm for his chosen career. He oozes passion and has an amazing sensibility towards his work, ( as well as a wicked sense of humour) that I can only see him going from strength to strength. Having assisted Pat McGrath for so long, he really knows his craft,  and for me he’s one of the few examples of today’s rising hair and make-up stars that has put in the hours, days, weeks, months and years and the blood, sweat and tears too,  just to be great at their job without a concern for only 15 minutes of fame, that so many young people seem to seek these days.

Featured amongst his Q&A are some shots of Yadim’s work including one from a Dior Beauty special that he recently worked on for the Vogue UK November 2012 issue, that is currently out now!!

Here’s a cheeky peek into his life.  GO YADIM !!!!

“ON ALL FOURS” Featuring Buster Kiedis from the Red Hot Chilli Puppies.

“ON ALL FOURS”  Featuring Buster Kiedis from the Red Hot Chilli Puppies.

Todays on all fours sees Buster Kiedis posing as a life drawing model for a special group in California. Taking time out from band/worldwide tour practice we see Buster showing off his long hair as seen in the Under the Bridge video.

This kind of modelling takes dedication as you have to sit still for hours. As you can see, he’s mastered this art.

In the other picture we see one of the art students trying to sneak a closer look at their subject.
